Is it just me, or do people have VERY different opinions on what 'genuine horse', 'good in traffic' and 'perfect allrounder' mean?!
We have just had our old boy put down at 34 years of age and HE is what I would describe as the perfect allrounder, never putting a foot wrong in the 20 years we had him!! He hacked out, alone or in company. Would go right out at the front, or hang back. You could have a fast, energy-fuelled hack on him, jumping logs, going through water and dodging hedges and ditches or just a plod around the block for half an hour. If you didnt want to hack, you could take him in the menage, where he would jump ANY coloured poles or fillers.
I have been looking for a horse for myself and my mum to share for about 2 months now, and not had much look. Went to look at an ISH that was 'brilliant and safe in every way' that ended up bucking and bronching across the menage resulting in me being thrown off. Also went to look at one that was apparently '100% in heaviest of traffic', yet it spooked and spun at a land rover passing it.
I understand that some people are looking for something that needs a little bit of encouragement and work in certain areas, but I'm starting to give up hope
