Its a rhinegold l/w turnout, used it for a year now with no problems, and now suddenly everytime it rains my pony is getting soaked. Its not been washed once so i havent taken the waterproofing off im just baffled

Oh and what re-proofer actually works? :)

Well there is rain and there is rain - if you live anywhere near us we have been having monsson weather!

T/Os are not waterproof - just very water resistant.

The waterproofing does wear out a bit though even if you don't wash them.

Sorry - no idea which products work - try sending it to a rug cleaner to do.

Is it always NOT waterproof? I find my lightweights won't stand up to hours of heavy rain. Two nights ago everyone came in.

I also find if they do get wet or the lining is damp they don't work so need to be dried thoroughly. I do keep my rugs for years and wash them in TechWash. The odd one will be a problem then I replace them.

I was thinking the exact same thing, my boy is in a L/W during the day and M/W at nite as we have been having really heavy rain recently and the L/W just aren't designed to hold the heavy rain, more for light showers and to keep the wind off them

The best LW's I have (that are waterproof in proper 'cats and dogs' downpours) are my Bucas smartex rain and my Horseware Rhino. I have found that the 600d LW's are only showerproof.

Honey has a 600d amigo, its old and still works :)
Love anything horsewear! But this one was bought for me!

Ive decided the pony is going au-natural .. i may regret this as shes grey :D

just a thought<> the horse isnt getting hot under it??? and rather than rain coming through the horse is sweating???

Nikwax is the best product to re-proof your rug and if its a light weight you can do this yourself. Just make sure the soap dispenser in your washing machine is clear of any other detergents completely. Others are right, some rugs are only showerproof and not monsoon proof. In my experience Rhinegold rugs are not the best rugs around - sorry to say that. Try washing and re-proofing it and see what happens, Nikwax do both the wash product and re-proofer.
