Had the saddler out to try some leather saddles to replace the well beaten wintec. I have a modest budget for an older leather saddle which considering this is for my long term loan, should have been enough. And I could just about justify. Anyway, saddler had 3 with the width in budget, a stubben, barsby and a batchelor. The stubben was a steal, so was quite excited.
Popped that on first and it looked shocking. Way way to narrow. Popped the barsby be on too with the same issue. The batchelor looked really good, even mounted so had a plod and checked again. It had sunk and was pinching the withers. Dis-heartened the saddler rumaged and pulled out a nearly new kent and masters. It looked a million dollars compared to the others. Very soft and lovely and comfortable. And of course it fits like a dream.
Problem is it's double the budget!!!!
I have it on trial for a week.....just trying to decide if 14 days of beans on toast is worth it for a loaner.

I know what you mean...

I am looking to buy a horse and if I was being sensible I would say this is my budget and I am sticking to it. The other side of me says - you only live once, buy the really smart horse that is £1.5k over your budget and just don't do anything else for a few years!

I would say a decent saddle is an absolute must it can make or break a horse and a decent saddle can make all the difference to the rider too!

Good luck!

I once read on a website:

We offer you 3 things, you can pick 2 -
You can have it fast and cheap, but it won't be good!
You can have it good and fast, but it won't be cheap!

Good luck in finding the right saddle ^^
