Im really confused with the horse world at the moment.

Nothings selling at reasonable prices....yet i see some people managing to sell theirs over £5k!

I was asked umpteen times last year if i new of any coloured fillies for sale, and i didnt. So now i have one for sale...no one wants her?

I really dont think im asking the world for her, but she isnt of any interest to anyone :(

Blimey, a friend of mine has sold 2 in 2 month for 10k and 4k. The 4k was a coloured boy. How old is she??? It might be, if unbacked, folks are finding horses for similar money that are started and riding away??

Cost of living increase = decreased standards of living

Government cuts = lots of worry about job prospects

Inflation greater than pay rises/interest received on accounts = net loss in personal wealth

etc, etc.

Plus, you can get more 'bang for your buck' what was a £15k horse might now be £10k (if they are serious about selling) a £10k now £7k, a £7k now £5k, and so on, so if you have the money and you are in the market why not get the best you can? People are perhaps looking for those bargains first.

She is rising 10 months old. Ive had her since she was 2 months old. Had to bottle feed her as she was taken from her mother at just 6 weeks old.

Im asking £400 for her....i dont see how this is too much??

if you were anywhere near glos i would snap your hand off. horses are well overpriced down here! out of interest how is she after being bottle fed! i have a 16yo that was bottle fed and hes a pain in the ars* :)

Aww bless.

She's fine, so loveable but cheeky at times. Just a typical baby. Everything we do with her, she just wants to do her best. So if she does something wrong, she panics! Then comes for kisses to make up for it :)

ahh she sounds lovely how big will she get. i hope you find a nice home for her x

ive had a 14.2hh recently re-backed 5yo for sale for about a month now.. only had three phone calls! hes up for £1k and hacks out fine! not sure what else you could get for a grand that you could ride tbh.... didnt think hes to pricey at all

Another thing to consider is where you are advertising.
At only £400 you need to be looking at advertising her on local tack boards, and local mags (do you have an equi-ads?).

I can't sell my filly either. She's a 2 year old and I wondered if no-one is interested in youngsters at the moment?? She's been advertised for a few weeks and only had 2 people contact me - a time waster and someone totally unsuitable and clueless. Apart from that nothing. I've paid out a fair bit for advertising and thought a stunning filly like her with fab paces and good conformation would sell for a reasonable price? I'm obviously wrong. Maybe it's because she's only a pony??

I would think people are thinking about the bales of hay the youngsters will cost between now and when they are old enough to do anything (apart from show) with.....

I bought my youngster for £700, but he must owe me thousands now in hay, bedding, livery, castration, other vets costs, insurance, wormer etc etc.....good job he is lovely!!

People can't afford to keep youngsters and if you are like me and looking to buy a 6 month old I'm going to make damn sure the one I get is going to be the right weight and height for what I want so I'm being extreamly picky and taking my time. I'm not wasting 3 years of my time and money on something that won't be what I want.

We've got a couple of youngsters for sale on our yard and not one sniff of interest even though they are very very cheap. But the safe riding hacks are flying out, literally for sale one day gone the next. YO just bought herself a lovely 4 year old mid weight 14.3hh cob, nice little fella she paid £1300 for him and in the week she's had him 3 people have offered over £2k for him!! Took her months to find him so she's not selling at any money but goes to show what people are looking for.

I think the thing about a recession is that the lower end of the market suffers the worst.

That and £400 doesn't go that far towards KEEPING a horse, even if you can buy one for that.

Well, I expect a lot has to do with her age, and the probably market she's aimed at. I.e rock bottom - and in a recession, only big money gets a return.

Personally I'd keep her unitl the market picks up or you can break her in.

Puppy i think you are right with the lower end of the market suffers the most, im going to have a look at a yearling colt advertised for 5k. which is a hell of a lot for a youngster but it is what im after.

I have been asking myself the same question! I don't just think it's youngsters that are not selling. I have a lovely 14yr old, 16.1hh allrounder on for 3k and I would take less if the right home came along and so far I have only had 3 emails I have replied to them all with no phone calls! I would have thought she would appeal to quite a large range of riders but perhaps 14 is too old?!

I understand times are hard but surely people are still looking for horses?
