I've had the gorgeous Dan for nearly 3 weeks now.
so far he has cost me an arm and a leg, he needed to have a new saddle as the old one didn't fit properly but lucky me the one he went the best in and seemed to like the most (Saddler agreed) happened to be the second hand one...PHEW
Vet has been out to microchip him and discovered he needed to have a tetanus jab and also some shampoo for his feathers...prevention is better than cure when it comes to mites and they are a bit flakey.
Chiropractor came out to look at him as the saddler noted he was a bit sore from his old saddle...he had a few problems with his hip being out, slightly twisted and his muscle on his neck was stiff....all sorted now and only needed to have the one visit..another phew
farrier is coming out next week as he is due for new shoes
oh and must not forget his new wardrobe, fly rug (he hates flys and don't want him getting stressed) fly spray, roll-on and wipe (can't be to careful and means every bit of him can be suitabley covered) plus the obligatory assorted new items when you go to the saddlery and sort of get carried away, numnahs, new stirrup leathers, wicking rug, buckets for every occasion more jods for me a few supplements one for flys and one to helpn with his flakey skin (he has bad rain scald a few months ago).
Is it worth it...yes it is!
Everyone who meets him falls in love him. He is so sweet and well mannered. he followed me around the field tonight whilst I was poo picking and decided to knock the wheel barrow over...luckily there wasn't much in it at the time
he is still quite green and trying it on when we go hacking (we don't have anyone to go out with at the moment which is a bit of a downer). He occasionally tried to nap by turning back home, if I am quick enough I get him to go 360 but if not we end up standing there me not letting him move until he decides he will turn back in the right direction...hehe Nothing nasty in it doesn't try to buck, rear or bolt and is only when going away from home, he just seems to be trying me out.
I've also found a great instructor who is used to green horses and teaching me lots of things I can do and giving me the reassurance I need that I am doing fine. The sort of person you can ask the most stupid of questions and she will laugh with you not at you.
Sure there will be lots of posts from me as i go between the why did I do this and the I love my horse phases but today is a I love my new horse and it was the best decision I have made in a long time
so no real reason for the post other than I just wanted to share
