'Rescue' a horse, then have no money to pay for any treatment, have no clue what they are doing, and said horse ends up severely emaciated due to an infection which is left untreated and horse is pts within a month of the 'fantastic rescue'!!

WHY?!!

Really angers me.
 
Angers me too. There's one around my way, taken on some "rescues" from a low end sale and is now posting allover facebook for "donations" can't be right surely??
 
Ridiculous.

Said people actually looked shocked when suggested they get a vet NOW as horse was stood swaying and staggering. It is only 2years old.

They have no idea what wormer they used when they got it two months ago - they said 'err it was one of the internet, not sure which kind'.

Horse is a colt and they went and turned it out with two mares today without any permission. Luckily (for the mares' owners, not for the colt) it is too weak to do anything.

Said they 'thought something was up two weeks ago when it stopped eating'. :mad:
 
Have to say this is one of my absolute hates! Have met a few in my time "rescuing from what" that's what I want to know because quite frankly the way they end up looking after there multitude of horses I'm sure they would rather be PTS!!
 
I can't help but think that sometimes the do gooders are actually worse than the places they rescue them from! Who in their right mind would leave an animal that hadn't been eating for two weeks without a vet???

I'd really struggle to be civil to them! Maybe get WHW involved?

Don't worry bikerchickone the situation is in hand.

What was even worse is that they turned it out on long lush fertilized grass when it is so emaciated it looked as if it had drunk ten litres of vodka staggering across the grass.
 
Poor colt :(

There really is no excuse for such neglect nowadays, if they ordered a wormer online then they would have been able to research what type to use easily enough, it's not as if they could only get the information from another experienced person/vet or a book like years ago.

Sadly these poor scraps can be picked up for nothing and anyone can get one to stick in the garden. :rolleyes:

I think some people buy them just because they can without realising the expenses involved, others do it for an ego boost and there are those who genuinely want to help but don't have the finances/experience to do so.

Sad times for a lot of ponies and horses at the moment. :(
 
Minxy Morris case was appauling.
Some people dont have a clue, think with hearts as opposed to heads and cry when it all goes horribly wrong!

A newborn dwarf miniature pony - very badly deformed (splints on all 4 legs as couldn't stand unaided etc.). Owner (who happened to be a convicted drug dealer IIRC) had taken Minxy off the mare and was keeping it in her house, and hawking it round local car boots, fetes etc trying to get the general public to pay for all her unspecified vets bills. Eventually she took it to Liphook who advised her to pts, something that most people had been advising for weeks. The poor little mite had a miserable few months of life :(

Of course it had extra 'cute factor' as it was a mini, so the tabloids loved it :rolleyes:

These people make me so mad. They just don't see pts as a welfare option, they would rather prolong suffering or even cause it themselves by not providing. They seem to think just allowing animals to live means they are being kind to them.

I know, and don't think it is something that people will ever agree on. There was a more recent post about a horse fitted with a prosthetic leg, all seemed to be going ok (they were riding it!) but it had to be pts as they were unable to maintain integrity of the stump or regulate the pain control :( Now to my mind I would have pts instead of attempting a prosthesis (to my knowledge it has never provided any sort of long term 'solution' in equines) but for other people 'where there's life there's hope'...

ETA this was a charity too :eek: Think how many horses could have been helped with the money.
 
I saw that one, it was obvious it was a no go from the beginning! Can you imagine trying to ride a horse with a prosthetic leg? Surely most people with some morals wouldn't even attempt it?

The little mite in my original post is highly unlikely to survive another few days. His eye sockets are now so sunken he looks like a 40 yr old horse, and he buckles at the knees and takes a couple of steps sideways every time he tries to walk. Vets are trying to treat but there is very little option other than pts now. All because of a minor infection which was left due to ignorance.

Why on earth are vets trying to treat is the little mite is in pain and has no chance of a normal life:mad:
 
Like someone said 'do gooders' - generally ill informed and lacking any experience of the thing. Whether it be rescues or anything else they still their noses into.

I saw a program once where it was about people with disabled pets. One lady's rabbit was paralysed in the back end. The poor thing couldn't walk or do anything and on top of that it was incontinent and she kept it in a nappy. The poor, poor thing had no hair and had massive sires where the urine had burnt it. It also had to endure having its faecesbeing washed from its hair everyday.

I was just talking about this the other day. :( To many people "Rescue" horses that realy should be PTS and then can't afford to keep them let alown treat them :mad: Some people just like the coudos of rescuing horses and have a "look at me arn't I wonderful" attitude. To me if you take a horse on whatever state it's in it's your responsability to do whats best for that horse whatever that is nomatter how much it costs.

There is a mare near me who I realy realy want to take in. She's not being mistreated but she sounds very similer to Herbs :( The owner is asking waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy to much for her But besides that I have nowhere to keep her and couldn't realy afford another one anyway :( So I just have to sit on my hands and pray someone else nice can take her on as if I did it wouldn't be fair to her, my boys or my OH. :( :(


I realy hope the poor chap in the OP is out of pain soon :(

Whilst the OP can occasionally get on my not so ample chest with her "pro RSPCA" posts......in this case you are clearly barking ruddy mad, and are stooping to incredulous lengths (pulling up VERY old posts) to slate someone.
Be a bit more inventive dear and get back under your bridge......

While I agree totally with the point of the original post on this thread, I do find a certain irony in the last sentence of the quote.
