Why oh why do people do this?!!

I would never rescue because I don't have the time, money and knowledge to put into it. It wouldn't be fair on the rescue, my other animals or me. It's not a simple cat or dog rescue (have done both) and unfortunately too many people think it's a walk in the park.

However the need to bolster your ego appears to be exactly the same.

I've got no need to bolster my ego thanks! What I say on this forum is exactly what I think and feel. I can't stand arse lickers who don't say how they feel.

I will never change the way I am, and am proud of who I am. Get over it.

And your language appears to reflect your self-esteem.

Well, allow me to make an observation then.

You deal with mental health issues etc, and claim to be very experienced at this.

How professional would you say you are?

Just asking. Because personally I think it's quite unprofessional for you to be being quite snipey over a public forum about somebody's percieved 'low self esteem'.

Yet another of your 'valuable' opinions I shall waste no time worrying about.

They may have had the money then ran out.
Most horses that are at auction sales even for the last time before being sent to the knacker man are simply in need of food and a little attention. They do not require everything, depending on their age they may not even need shelter.
They do not like many presume need special intensive treatment just the love and a little attention from someone along with food, grass and hay (if limited grass).
Horses that wind up at horse sales are not bad, crazy or any other name they are given. They have become scared of humans through the foul treatment they have experienced. I have seen everything and anything end up at the wretched knackerman. From old ponies (who have been loyal companions to some little children) to once grand winning thoroughbreds.

I disagree. Rarely is feeding up an emaciated pony the best way to help it. It's not an easy task to put weight on ata good speed and amount.
Putting a colt out with mares is silly regardless of running out of money or not and not eating for two weeks and not getting a vet out is unacceptable.
I don't think sales was even mentioned, it was rescue. I have no problem buying from sales, I would not rescue though.

I do see what you mean MoomincePie about rescueing horses then not being able to even feed them. I would not be able to sleep at night if I was starving an animal.

Just to clarify, the pony was normal body condition when they 'rescued' it. They thought it looked 'sad' in a field, with no extra food etc etc.

So they've rescued and it's now emaciated and in worse position with no vet care :(

PJ this was a thread I posted a long time ago. Yes that was the case through and through.

But if you look, certain people have revived the thread to try and have a go at me from other threads which are current.

Horse in question was pts after my intervention.

One person resurected the thread, in quite a spiteful manner. Other people then commented on the rather ironic twist of the OP's threads being used in the manner, after the OP had commented on it. Just so that we are all clear.

We have bought two rescue horses over the years, they have had everything they need. The welsh d i have now was given two weeks to live where he was. Thats what the vet told us. Now hes happy and healthy.
These people who resue with no clue, or indeed go out and buy a youngster with no clue (sadly i have seen both) really drive me nuts. Do your homework first, not after!

Are you sure that happened where is your proof I can't see any so you must be waffling! ROFPMSL

Wow how mature! You must be rather bored to go trawling through other member's post history!
However, if you deem it necessary I could provide some photographic evidence for you?
I saw the pony in question and he was in an awful state. Owners were naive and novice and killed the pony through their own negligence.

Sorry to drag this back on topic...

My mare was a rescue, and I don't doubt that her last owner's heart was in the right place, and she loved the mare to bits, but she just didn't have the knowledge or the time needed to complete the rehab process.

I was lucky, being in the right place at the right time, and bought her for a song (it'll be a year ago tomorrow when she was delivered :D). She was thin, had never spent the night in a stable and was terrified of strangers. I spent the rest of the winter letting her be a horse but working on her issues from the ground, and I now have the most amazing horse that I'm so proud of. :D

We stupidly went to acertain yard near Kent and absolutely shocked! Heart ruled head and came back with 3 x standards and 4 x minis who were the skinniest of the bunch.

10k in vets bills for problems I do not wish to sit here and list all! The 4 shetlands were PTS within 3 days of there arrival as they were just so bad so vets instructions, they had 3 dYs in the barn with some nice hay Nd fluffy beds. 2 of the standard breds were just skinny so they were fine and the other one was PTs after 6 weeks as he was just not responding to treatments or feeding etc.

Sorry hadn't finished! The two that survived are doing well but never again shall we rescue anything!!! The stress money and heart ache was un bearable!

Iv been lucky, iv taken in 3 rescues who were thin, over grown hoofs, rain scold, and honest to god their manure moved it honestly had a pulse it was so full of everykind of worm possable. They were a ladys pride of joy until she died and they were left in the field for 5 yrs untouched, until somebody found the ladys husband and said that he needed to do something before the RSPCA was called. I stupidly said I would take the younster who was born in the field but when the lorry turned up out came 3 horses who were left on my yard
a tb mare, who now is out hunting and enjoying life but honestly I'm no soft ****** but I shed a tear when she came of the lorry
her youngster which I was told was Anglo Arab in not as bad way as her mum and seeing that she hadn't been handled was a sweetheart.
A walking Skelton came of last with turned up feet and could hardly move, thought tbh he would be pts. But came through.

The vet came stright away to check all 3, and treat what needed doing, farrier came that afternoon to see to feet and they were all so good, no energy to fight. I loved doing it and if I won the lottery would start my own place up but the head aches I had everyday though stress was unreal and this was on top a full time job.
It is very rewarding but very stressful and I was lucky as the vet came stright out to treat and farrier wasn't far behind. I didn't want to leave them without seeing the vet until mon as they were v bad and all ended up bold after the rain scold came of.
The mare who hunts is local
the youngster is with a friend of mine and the worst one is a companion at mine due to issues we can't resolve in his head but happy to roam and graze the farm and come in at night.

Unfortunately rescuing often just adds to the problem. Someone gets shut of an animal which needs time and money spending on it. Even PTS costs money. So the neglector gets rid of thier problem. If they were left with the problem and bills to pay maybe they would think twice before breeding or aquiring more or letting what they already have get into a state.
