Why say 'snaffle mouth' when photo says otherwise?

Why do people advertise horses as 'snaffle mouth' and then put pictures of said horse wearing a gag or Pelham?

I truely don't understand this piece of logic.

I'd usually completely agree, and I do find it frustrating too. And if the horse is then featured in a very strong bit it is silly to advertise it as otherwise.

However, occasionally different bits are used, but not for reasons of the horse being too strong. For example my horse is snaffle mouthed, and genuinely so, you can always stop him in a snaffle. But he is occasionally jumped in a simple gag type bit (similar to a Wilkie) just because he is rounder in it and makes a better shape over fences. So he is 'snaffle mouthed' but we use a variety of bits.

Or like mine - wears a Mullen straight bar happy mouth gag, only use the Gag as the other straight bar I have has small rings which can move around, I use full cheek or the gag and haven't got or found a straight bar full cheek. So nevef use any other ring on the gag but a pic may make you think my mare is strong - she's not.

I think that too, except that sometimes, I've played around with different bits for genuine reasons and then decided that a bog standard snaffle is best.
It could be that its the better photo out of a selection of mediocre or copyrighted ones.

All those points I completely understand. I suppose the ones that are annoying are for example something being sold as a hunter, advertised as snaffle mouth and then photos of it hunting in a running gag.

I know nothing about such things (though I know someone who does!) but isn't there something about stallions wearing a double bridle/Pelham at some shows?

All horses are shown with a double for correctness ... You will end up at the back of the line in a snaffle ( one of the things I hate about showing btw)

OP I feel your pain, there are some pretty stong snaffles around so it's not a gread description anyway - what they are trying to say is not strong at all and if you have to pop in a gag to do anything exciting - it could be strong !!!

I always just wonder what else they've over exagerated/ forgotten to mention

Snaffle mouthed does not impress me anyway they are horrible bits. Biting has moved on so much but many owners still think a snaffle is a mild bit. Put one on your arm and see what action it has like a horses tongue. Even with good hands it still pinches.
