I have had to seperate my field into 2 sections because one side is now being used to graze racehorses in a pen and I didn't want my horse near them mainly because they are hugely expensive and I don't want any kicking incidents.

He spent all day on his side yesterday apparently until I got home. I always call him when I get out of the car to say hello and i did this as usual yesterday when I saw him on the far side of the field. 2 minutes later he was hanging over the near fence and had obviously jumped his electric fencing to come and see me. I got him in and rode him. Turned him back out on the right side of the fence and fed him. As soon as he had finished his supper he jumped back over a further 6 times. Each time he would whinny at me and come for a cuddle. I would then put his headcollar back on and turn him out in his part of the field again. It got so monotonous that he would sigh every time we got to the gate!!

At the 7th time when I was in my pj's I put him back out and put up another line of fencing in front of the first line bigger than an oxer and smaller than a double so he couldn't jump it. That managed to keep him contained for the night.

As an ex racehorse he is loving the one on one attention I think but that was going to extremes last night. Any ideas why he might be doing that just when I'm at home? I'm secretly hoping its because he loves having me as his new mummy but probably not. There were no other horses around at the time. Strange!

I'm afraid I can't give him a friend - he had the pikie pony when I first got him and she kicked him because he was being annoying and he was off work for quite a while. He also kicked her quite a few times. He was absolutely dreadful when they got seperated so I'm afraid he's going to have to live on his own. Since we sold her he is so much calmer and chilled out. I don't want him to start getting anxious about being seperated from another horse again. I despaired of him then and he is a different horse now who doesn't weave at the field gate, fence and in his stable. Thankfully.

He seems to be very happy on his own - he is exceptionally relaxed and spends a lot of time lying down fast asleep on the floor. However he's a wiley b*gger and will uproot any bit of electric fencing if he can even if the other side is a patch of particularily unappealing grass. He doesn't like being told he can't go where he wants! However, he does respect boundary fences made of wood thank god.

From your previous post, I thought you rented the whole field - in which case how come they are allowed to use half of it for a pen - surely if you pay for the field then it should all be yours to use how you want?
To answer the question - he probably does like the attention but sounds like the additional fencing that you put up last night is the answer - or maybe higher fencing perhaps?

I do rent the field but things are very up in the air at the moment with the new yard opening so I have given in gracefully and said I am happy for them to use the smaller section and my horse can have the other side (the field is nearly 5 acres...!) The main reason I was so cross on Sunday when I saw a random horse in the pen in my field was that the bloke just didn't think about what could have happened when he was putting his horse out nor did he seem to give a sh*t when I lost my temper with him.

I think you are right about bigger fencing though! I did wonder whether the horse was so pleased with how brilliant he'd been jumping telegraph poles yesterday that he was practising over the electric fence!!
