Just wondering why the one horse had from his head piece to about a quater down his mane missing? like an over exaggerated bridle piece?

Also why did the horse have blue pompoms on the side of his/her browband and why the black swish thing hanging off the martingale?

any answers gratefully received

p.s. they were all beautiful horses and didnt you heart go out to the coldsteam guard sitting in the stands after loosing his legs earlier this year - god bless him !

It signifies the diffrent ranks of the officers riding, not sure what each one means though, My grandad was in the royal horse artillary (please excuse spelling had a few 2 drinl) as gunner :D he lived to the ripe old age of 103 and had some amazing stories probably where i got my loe of horsdes from :D

The black tassles under the chin comes from when horses were ridden in battle and were supposed to protect against a sword cut from below ie from infantry.
