Why would she have done this?

Was riding my wee mare in the woods today, as we do every Saturday, albeit I haven't been out the past few weekends, when she decided to get down and attempt a roll!!

Was an extremely soft landing for me and managed to get my leg out of the way somehow but have never experienced this before and first time she has ever done it.

Think she gave herself a fright too when she realised she had her saddle on and thankfully didn't roll over. Thought she was going to run home as she took off after it but thankfully stopped so I could catch her.

What would have caused her to do it? Do you reckon she just had an itch or was feeling a bit sweaty?

Thanks for any advice!

Nice soft muddy patch as well? Just keep your leg on and if you feel her start to buckle another time move her on sharpish. I find a good "Oi!" and a kick generally does the job pretty effectively.

Colic did go through my mind as grass was a bit frosty this morning but she had a poo whilst we were out and I kept an eye on her for a good hour and a half once we got home and she is fine in this respect.

It was a nice soft mulchy patch she lay down on and she does like to get dirty!!

mine tried it once and i think it was because we were out hunting and he was really hot and sweaty, and a friend who was on foot had done up his girth for me, but had done it extra tight?
