why ?

I really don't know he sounds lovely and is advertised at a good price. Maybe she could put some better pictures up of him jumping and doing flat work. The one at the moment is nice but it doesn't really show a lot.

Looks lovely but the write up is going to be very limiting, in my eyes anyway, with her stating that he is never strong and always ridden in a snaffle, then saying not a novice ride, as can be sharp....

That is just my own personal opinion though.......

I agree the picture is no the greatest,

and a sharp TB gelding is not for everyone but if thats your ' thing' he looks a nice sort. Is he that sharp that it needs to be mentioned as opposed to a chat on the phone when someone rings as one person's sharp is not anothers.

I would suspect because he is TB, described as sharp and picture is not flattering/doesn't show off his jumping ability/technique.

I would redo the ad with a good jumping photo (preferably a spread with a filler or a substantial XC fence) and leave out the bit about his breeding and him being TB. Also give more details of how successful he has been in 'Jumpcross, Cross Country and showjumping'. What height has he competed at, has he jumped clear and has he won or been placed?

He looks lovely! The only thing I will say, and I'm guessing here...... Is he an ex racehorse? There is really no need to mention his breeding and what his parents have done, if anything it might make people think that he is far too well bred for what they want. I'd be inclined to play down the thoroughbred bit completely. Also, I'd get up a couple more pics, maybe a conformation one of him standing in a yard untacked and one over a jump and a flatwork one. Nothing wrong with him being sharp but I'd be more inclined to say- not for a complete novice or something like that.

thank you all for your replys very constructive
he is a tipical thoughbred 9 days out of 10 is perfect but on the 10th day he can have a complete thoughbred moment !
he has never competed he is an ex racehorse but was never fast enough he has cross country school at 3' with a rusty rider no problems very bold but not strong and done jump cross training ect does work on an outline but could do with more schooling on the flat

she did have him advertised at £3000 but no responce and really needs to find him a new home asap hense price i agree photo is terrible going to have a look see if i have a better one of him !

Will you lot please stop picking on ex-racers? I'm a total novice and I potter around on a 5 year old one. They're not all bad by any means. Some of them are absolute bombproof gems.

I agree with the above - bad picture and you really need to sort out that conflicting description. Looks like a nice guy though :)

he sounds fab needs much better photo's maybe add a video to show off what he can do, people will wonder why he is so cheap and if you want to say he is not stong but sharp sometimes you could put that he is slightly green instead or something like that pity he's over 200 miles away otherwise i'd be interested to come and see him

I would take out the bit thats says sharp at times. Any horse can be sharp at times, and it should be expected that a TB may be on the ball :)

Leave the advert more open, she can always tell people on the phone/in person (explaining in more detail) how he can be sharp :)

Hahaha, that's harsh! I don't think anyone's picking on them, they're great although not everyone's cup of tea. Or at least some people THINK they won't like them and so won't even ring up about them. I have one too and although she's not easy she's not off to the glue factory just yet ;)

one other conflicting thing in the ad which would make me wary is it says he is fit and ready to go but no time to do him justice. The fact it also says can be sharp would make me wonder if he was being sold due to having got fit and then him being just too sharp for the average rider.

Have re-written your ad for you.

I have sold/loaned 5 tb's in the past year :) They are not hard to sell, people tend to know what they are about before they come and look :)

7 year old potential rc all rounder/eventer.

Hacks alone or in company, bold xc (ditches/water etc)/sj/flatwork. Has competed in all rc activities including jump cross and pleasure rides.

Victor is fit and ready to produce for the summer season. He has the potential to event/eligible for R2R classes/perfect all rounder for capable rider.

Snaffle mouth at all times, and 100% to shoe/box/clip. Open to full five stage vetting.

Tack and rugs available by separate negotiation.

£3k o.n.o. for quick sale of talented, kind horse due to being over worked and underpaid!!!

I actually don't think it is anything much to do with the ad, the pictures or the price. I am selling a pony (PC Schoolmaster) at the moment and have had 2 calls, friend is selling her TB gelding and trainer is selling her 15.2 dressage/hacking cob and neither have had any calls. Unfortunately I think it is the current market. There seems little rhyme or reason as to what is actually selling at the moment. All are in Sussex too!:(

But the worse the market is, the better you have to present the horse - so excellent photos and well-thought out wording will maximise your possibilities of getting phone calls.

I totally agree that you have to maximise the opportunity to sell your horse and make sure your advert and pictures really do show the horse/pony in the best light - but if people aren't buying, they quite simply won't sell. There is a limit as to how far you can reduce prices, throw in tack etc. If you reduce the price too much people automatically assume there is a problem with the horse so you are damned of you and damned if you don't.

There is another post on the same subject - a nice pony that isn't selling - it would be interesting to know what actually is selling at the moment - especially considering we are entering the traditional 'sales' period of the year. :(

but if people aren't buying, they quite simply won't sell.
But it is not that NO-ONE is buying, it is that there are FEWER people buying. Therefore, you have to make your advert stand out and catch the eye straight away and persuade the buyer that this is THE horse or pony for them. I know people who have sold their horses/ponies within days in your area, so some animals ARE selling.

Perhaps you could post a link to your ad so we can see if we can help.
