Wierd little bumps / scabs - any ideas?

Hi

A horse at our yard has funny little bumps clustered over him - some on his flank, shoulder and face. He doesn't seem affected by them and you can easily pick the scabs off. They look like bites?

I've taken a picture but am still trying to figure out how to upload...hopefully it will follow shortly in the meantime your thoughts would be gratefully received.

could be urticaria - an allergy to something. has there been a change in anything??
