Ok well i have 2problems here....both involving lumps!! The first one worries me the most so here it is
Problem 1 and main worry - i have noticed bony lumps on the back of rocks near fore knee. about 8 on the back of his knee and then about 15 between his knee and fetlock!! And they're solid but not sore and hes not lame or anything. Hes usually got lumpy legs as he has old formed splints in both his fore legs but today his near fore was just covered in bony lumps and the other legs were normal. No heat i didnt think. Any idea what this is? I'm going to put his magnetic boots on all night every night starting tonight just in case. Good move? please advice needed

Problem 2 - now i think i know what this is but ideas need anyway. After exercise when rock is sweaty ( he has a thick coat which im clipping on tuesday and is unfit so sweats alot atm) he comes out in lumps all over his body, really obvious ones mainly on his belly and side. IS this some kind of sweat rash and if so will it go when i clip him? His feed hasnt changed though hes in a new field but i dont think its an allergic reaction as it only comes up after exercise!

PLEASE help on these problems!

Glad you posted this as CCJ's new mare has exactly the same problem.
I recognised it as urticaria (I get it myself!) and rang our vet yesterday to ask his advice.
He said it may be one of three causes, a sweat rash in which case wash her thoroughly in diluted hibiscrub, if that doesn't do the trick he has something stronger.
It may be feed related in which case remove all hard feed for a week, give grass and hay or haylage. Then gradually introduce feed starting with plain pony nuts,
Third cause may be allergic to something in the field most likely nettles.
the mare didn't have the rash when we bought her but the owner said both irish horses came over with a virus and had the lumps at the same time, she feels it may be the tail end of the bug coming out.
We have decided initially to hunter clip our mare this afternoon, then if they still appear, try the hibiscrub as it will work better on bare skin.
We have removed the hard feed as advised too.
I have seen horses at sales absolutely covered in urticaria but it is soemthing you can normally control by removing the causes, we have also put our horse on three capsules of aloe vera a day as that is great at reducing inflammation.
Let me know if you find a better solution!
