Wilkie bits

I have an eventer in the yard, he goes XC in one, just enough help when needed and so much nicer, imo, than a Dutch Gag, which would probably have been the other option.

I use a Waterford Wilkie on my very strong horse. I used to use a Pelham for hacking & universal for jumping. He's had a lot of surgery on his head & couldn't cope with either of these anymore. I've had the Wilkie a couple of months & so far so good, no disasters as yet. I got the Waterford mouthpieced one as he likes waterfords & I
find he can't set & lean on them.

I like them.

I bought one for my pone, who came to me with a snaffle and a dutch gag. Most of the time he's fine in a snaffle but for some activities, he needs a bit more but I found the DG a bit too much for him (I am probably stronger than his previous rider, a junior). The Wilkie/loop ring snaffle is a good inbetweenie.

We have our pony in a happy mouth one he wears it as a standard eggbut at home but use the Wilkie when at shows to keep him focused I think they are brilliant and personally i hate to see kids riding ponies in gags with single reins.
