will a 17.2hh fit in a ifor williams 505

a 505 will only happily carry up to 16.2hh and even then it can be a bit of a squeeze sometimes, so I dont think you would ever get a 17.2hh into a 505, well not without bending the horse in half anyway!

edited due to shocking spelling!

I have done it for an emergency trip to the vet. Understandably it was a bit of a tight squeeze and the owner very sensibly got a lorry to bring her horse home

So in answer to your question... yes a 17.2 will fit but it is a tight squeeze and the horse is not comfortable so don't consider it for anything other than an emergency

Does he fold in the middle, and can you fold his legs in!!!

Seriously, I don't think that a 505 will be big enough, as the OP said they are for up to 16.2hh, you will need a 510 for 17.2hh

My advice would be to look at a 510 or 511.
My 16.2 goes in the 505, he's 6'6 rug, and if he travels on the right hand side I have to swing the front partition over to the left to allow him to bend/swing and exit down the front ramp (or reverse him off).
I wouldn't want to put anything bigger than him into a 505.

You'll no doubt squeeze him in if he's short but there will not be enough head room, neck room or room behind and in front of the breast bar, there only meant to carry up to 16.2 (at the most) so the bigger the better, you'd need a 510 or a 511.

A friend of mine has a 17.1 TBxShire and she has always traveled him in a 505. This is partly because she thought he was 16.2 until she put a stick on him! He is a very quiet traveller though.

The biggest trailers (internally) are the Ifor 510, 511 - but they are very heavy - and Bateson Deauville and Ascot - also Cheval Liberte XL range. I have a huge chunky monkey of a mare and she is v comfy in her Cheval Liberte 2003XL. Depends if you are looking for height or width really - CL and IW highest, IW 511 widest, and Bateson slightly lower/more narrow.

I have a big horse and just did all this research recently - PM me if I can help at all.

My 16.1 mare takes a 5 feet 9 rug and only squeezes in my IW505 by having the partition out and standing slightly diagonally, and because she is very keen to travel! And I'm looking for a 3.5 tonne box anyway. However if buying from new for your horse, I would go for the 510 or 511 as you may have head height issues too.
