I have an exracer who had a somewhat difficult past. He had an injury from a bad fall over a jump while racing, and then went to a training yard to see if he could be re-schooled as a sj'er, where he was over-faced and lost all his confidence.
He is with me now and just has absolutely no confidence once he sees poles or jumps. we have taken it really slowly and stressfree and he has improved a lot. He tries his best and doesn't refuse or run out, but you can feel him tensing up going into jumps and all his attention goes on me and i feel like i have to focus all my energy on nannying him over the fences. We are only doing absolutely tiny fences to get his confidence. And recently did some really tiny cross country fences which he did, although he was super nervous going into them.
Its a new experience for me as my last horse absolutely loved jumping and would carry you into fences. This one is just so different and I'm curious if he will ever grow to be bolder and enjoy it? Has anyone else has a similar experience and have any tips?
