I've banished the dogs to the kennel during the day time now when I'm at work, because I'm fed up of Tyson wrecking the house, but Bryony's getting cold I think? I put a coaty thing on her, but I think they play fight and Tyson pulls it off, as its never still on when I come back to let them out.
She hates it in the kennel, I feel mean making her stay in it all day but Tyson wont be in there on his own and I'll have a breakdown if he stays in the house much longer.
I've filled it up with dog beds and an old sleeping bag for her to snuggle but she is always cold and miserable when I arrive home.
Will she get used to it do you think? Can I do anything to make it warmer for her without overheating Tyson?

Is there a reason he cannot be crated when you are out or he cannot be attended? Or get dividers for the kennel?
Or have one in and one out and rotate? Why can he not be out alone?

He was crated, but we both work full time, and I felt it was too long to be couped up in a crate between 8-5pm with only half an hours walk midday to break up the day, so I would leave him in the house in the morning, and then crate him for the afternoon once he'd had a lunch time walk.
It worked for a bit, but hes started getting destructive in the mornings now, and my house can take no more!

I tried just putting him in the kennel and leaving B to her own devices in the house (which she much prefers) but Tys just will not settle without her, even with a big raw bone to eat he calls and whines and stresses about being outside on his own. I tried building him up to it gradually like I did with the crate, but he makes such a racket and the neighbours have a new born baby so I don't like to push it too much really.

Could you rig up a heat lamp or similar in the kennel. My friend has outside kennels for her terrier and spaniel and when it is cold they have the pig lamp on. Lovely and warm, the spaniel sometimes sleeps with head of kennel for a bit of cooling!

Thought about this but current kennel isn't huge and I worry about that making Tyson too hot?
I think for next winter we'll have to invest in a larger kennel with all the mod cons for a wimpy dog.

I use and infra red light for my hens. It only warms the hen not the ground so they need to stand infront of it :D

a smaller kennel keeps them warmer than a larger one. ;) i use straw in mine, as this traps the air and warms it making the kennel cozy.

i also got betty (american bulldog... is bryony an ab too??!! maybe i am confused?!) an equafleece dog tankie. keeps her snug and warm and she cant get it off without the use of hands...! :p

its brilliant for cold days out in the kennel, and for cold walks/fishing trips etc. washes fine in the machine and dries really quick.
