We got puppy 1half weeks ago. We knew it would unsettle both older dogs and thought gsp would love it and boxer (can be funny with other dogs) be funny.

Turns out we were wrong the boxer is fine would be funny with toys and fold but fed and played separate.

My gsp who is weakest and a baby (hes 5 acts 2) doesn't like puppy at all. He's not aggressive but is scared and is puppy is in the room he runs out and if out together he jumps out of puppies way.

He has had his nose put out of place but will he ever give in? We ignore the behaviour and dont force anything on the gsp and i give gsp more attention keep routine normal.

Has anyone had a dog strop and for how long or will he never like him. We got puppy for when boxer is no longer here so gsp isnt alone but think he would rather be alone.

My westie was five, when we got a border terrier pup. He hated her for a good six months and took a whole year until he was happy. They have been best friends ever since the westie is now ten.

My neutered Dobermann didnt want anything to do with our Lancashire Heeler puppy when she first arrived, if she approached him he would growl and go into another room. We didnt make a big deal of it and we didnt allow the pup to hassle him, we made lots of fuss of him and after a couple of weeks he came around. It takes as long as it takes and as long as you carry on doing what you are doing Im sure he will come around. We used to put the pup in the garden in a little area fenced off and the 2 Dobes would walk around and sometime jump in to be with her but it was always their choice and now they are the best of friends.

Our 11 year old GSP hated our pup for about 2 or 3 weeks, starting warming (slightly!) after that (but still leapt up and away from him every time he came near her, like she'd been stung!) for a while after that. When he was about 14/15wks old,she really warmed to him and they became good friends. (Now he's bigger than her&weighs more, she's not so keen to play fight for more than a minute or two,tho-can't blame her-but she's still the boss!)

Thanks guys we were so worried about the other one as digger loves all dogs. He is better than he was and we manage it really well and never let pup pester him. I think until pup is older and allowed out on neutral ground he'll be like he is. Vene thats the same reaction he does.
