my lovely little TB went out on loan (for the second time) on Sunday. He's coming back (for the second time) tomorrow :( The loanee has rung me and apprantly he just won't settle in his new home- he's been bucking and rearing in his stable and the YM won't even go in with him...now he can be rather 'food aggressive' but thats honestly the only time i wouldn't go in the stable with him (and i did warn them about it)- the rest of the time he's really chilled out to handle etc. the only thing he really hates is being on his own- so if in the stable block on his own he could have got really worked up...
i suggested that they put him out for a couple of days to chill with other horses but apparantly the other liveries wont let him out with their horses as he's a 'nutter'! i can understand their concerns but he wouldn't go mad in the field with others! they've put him out on his own and he's gone mental- well yes he will..he doesn't like being on his own!
i just feel so frustrated with this whole loaning thing! i really like this girl but i am now really worried that he's just not going to settle anywhere else. i;ve moved yards with him no problem but i've owned him for 7 years so mybe its just too much of a change for him to take in one go?
any suggestions for what i can try?

It is a bit unreasonable of your loaner to expect a horse to settle into a new yard that quickly! Surely they must realise that new surroundings, new horsey neighbours AND new handler(s) all at once will be unsettling for any horse! Poor boy!
In my opinion your loaner has been irresponsible, by taking on a new horse and not even giving him a month to settle in. Poor you, hopefully you will find a more committed loaner soon.

thanks for your support... i don't think she's been irresponsible as such i think its the other people on her yard who are telling her that she's taken on a maniac and to send him back...its such a shame as he's really easy to do normally...can be a bit lively to ride (ex racehorse) but otherwise your grnny could handle him  i did think it was expecting him to settle a bit soon though- i would give a horse a while longer than 5 days...

Might be worth advertising him for loan to stay at current yard depending how much interest you got? Plenty of people seem to do it, and he wouldn't put people off then.

I do think it's a bit unreasonable to expect him to settle so quickly, but then again it sounds like quite dramatic behaviour so i can't say i blame them.

oh yes i don't blame her at all... TBF she did say she was worried he might hurt himself so am glad she has rung (would much rather know than not know if that makes sense!)...i just guess he's not of those horses that doesn't adapt well (something i hadn't anticipated:rolleyes:) i think trying to find someone for current yard would be best idea...i didn't get much response last time tho but guess i have no alternative
