just wondering if my pony would slip out hunting without back shoes on, he always seems to slip on grass when showjumping as be only has front shoes and im worried if i took him hunting he would slip over? does anyone else hunt without back shoes?! please help!! thanks :D

i hunted my old pony for 3 seasons with no shoes at all. dont remember him ever slipping. hunting is nothing like SJ on grass, rare to need to do sharp turns so you should be fine.

I have hunted 3 horses without hind shoes and they were generally fine, we had the odd slip on grass but I don't know if shoes would have helped. The main downside is that you get helpful people telling you all day that you have lost two shoes!!

When I had my 2 TBs early this year one hunted completely barefoot and the other with just front shoes (both went out once a week). They slip much less than shod horses as it is their natural hoof not metal holding them up - also shoes would usually only prevent slipping by using studs which for hunting is a massive no no.
