buying my pony a polar fleece cooler to use as a cooler but also as a LW stable rug and an under rug (native so we only need LW type stuff). He's on shavings - will I spend a winter regretting the combination of fleece and shavings?! They look so snuggly and are cheaper than a thermatix / thermocell type cooler!

:D

Yes, fleece and shavings are not the best combination in the world :o

This is what I'm concerned about, that's i'll spend the winter picking shavings off the fleece! I would love a weatherbeeta thermocell but equestrian clearence don't seem to have them.

swish equestrian do a super lightweight stable rug that has a waterproof outer layer that the shavings just wont stick too.
very reasonably priced too. Check out their website

Why don't you use a lightweight turnout rug instead? They are all breathable now and you won't have the problems of shavings sticking to the rug.
I've been using turnout rugs for stable rugs for 3 years now. It keeps the pee stains from going through and means you only have to clean the rug at the end of the season, so keeps down cleaning costs

Yes you will

Try one of those Weatherbeeta Jasper extra light ones, about 100g weight, proper stable rug style, shavings shouldn't be a problem.

TBH, I'm pleased I'm changing from shavings to straw this winter so I avoid this problem as it's such a pain! I only use fleeces to cool down. I can second the wb jasper rugs, they're great, I use one as an under rug for my tb as I don't like using a fleece as an under rug as I find they pull back tight across the chest. My id has one also as his main rug in the winter!
