Horse had a slight cough but couldnt get rid of it. Had ventipulman and anti biotic. Then had more ventipulman and stronger antibiotic. Then had endoscope then had another and had inhaler. Still she was the same a couple of coughs at start of work and breathing a bit laboured. Finally I got some Clarity and she hasnt coughed since.
The first months bills came to £700 and I paid £135 excess plus 15%. My insurance was due to be renewed and as they had already put an exclusion on her hindlegs as I had claimed£45 towards a scan that was clear,I didnt renew it.
Now I have the rest of the bill for the cough which is £640 .I had no idea an inhaler was £99 and the spray with it £65. I think vets should tell you the cost before hand , it just looks the same as my Grand daughter inhaler. Anyway as it a continuation of the treatment for the cough when she was insured do I pay my vet 15% and send the bills to the insurance. Insurance is KBIS.

How long ago did treatment for the cough begin? I believe you have twelve months from that date regardless of whether or not you renewed your policy but would ring them first before sending the bill in.

I work in the industry, unfortunately lol, cannot speak for KBIS but in general, as long as (a) the date of loss was within your policy period and (b) you have not had this condition before, as i am sure they will have a recurrent condition exclusion in their policy wording, you should be able to claim. If the vet does state on the claim form that the horse has suffered from a cough prior they may not pay out due to it being a condition that you had not prior disclosed.

Also most policies mean you can continue to claims for upto 365 days from the date of loss to claim irrespective of a renewal date and whether it renewed ornot. Hope it helps x

Thank you. She has never had a cough before. They paid the first months bills then I didnt renew but she had two more visits the next month so hopefully they will pay.
