Last year before I owned my beautiful pony we booked for a holiday in Germany for 10 days. I was very excited. But since the time of booking it I got my own pony! I only got him in early October and when I got him it was clear he was selective on who he trusts, if a new person goes in his stable he turns his bum but if I go in he greets me with a whinny!! He was naughty to lead and tank of with me but I've sorted that and he lets me do anything in the stable with him and I feel confident to do it! But when I get back will he go back to how he was before? Will he trust me? Will he try and test me again? Or will he forgive me?? X

Horses are blessed with not suffering such emotions as hate like humans do. 10 days really isn't a long time. So long as the person who is dealing with him while your away carries on your work with him and his leading there really shouldn't be a problem. He will probably be pleased to see you :) don't worry about him and enjoy your holiday.

You sound so much like my cousin, she got her first own pony a year ago, similar story, he was nervous & headshy but they have become a real close team & he adores her. He will often play up for me if I need to catch him in the field & yet he runs to her as soon as he sees her. He is what I would describe as 'strange' with her..lol.

He will still trust you when you get home, he might try to test you if his training isn't continued while your away but you'll soon pick up from where you left off. He most certainly won't 'hate' you, horses aren't like that, they don't have those sort of human thoughts & feelings. Enjoy your holiday..

Thanks everyone I cried all the way on the train to Germany cause I was leaving him! And yes that's the same!! He' won't let anyone catch him, runs off! But he sees me and comes over to me whilst whinnying at me! And in the stable he turns his bum to Beyoncé wouldn't do anything but warns them! And I go in and he Winnie's and stands waitin for me to for him a hug and a pat! Xxxx

My dear old mare was a funny one. She used to be a nightmare to catch at times especially in the summer. Gradually she got over it and in recent years we never had much of a problem. However without fail every time I had been on holiday and returned two weeks later, as I was happily strolling up to her really pleased to see her again she'd turn tail and tell me to GTF! I'd spend two hours trying to catch her on average. Oh and she'd not catch for anyone else either, so she literally would turn feral for the time I would be away.

I don't think he'll forget you so easily :)

The lady who used to own Ned came to see him after more than 6 months of not seeing him, she called him and he came running over to see her :)
