I have an old Rice Beaufort Popular trailer (newly refurbished) and a 15hh heavy Vanner cob. Motor is a 1993 Nissan Terrano 2.7 SLX with 99bhp. This model does not have the new intercooler system.

Does anyone have similar rig and if so what it like for pulling?
Any comments very welcome!

Sorry, I can't help with the towing question, but my OH bought a 1994 Terrano (same model) last week, and I wondered if yours is really thirsty on diesel?

This one drinks it!

Are they all like that, or has my OH bought a dodgy one?

I have a Landrover 2.5TD and a Ifor 510 that holds a 16.3hh warmblood and it tows very comfortably.

Before I bought my car I was also looking at Terranos

I've had three of these, although the oldest was a Y reg and they all pull wonderfully. They pull easily IW 510 & two horses.

They all seem to do just under 30mpg unless I'm towing and then its much less ! I usually get just under 350miles out of a full tank.

Re diesel guzzling - no mines not too bad.
I think I must do about 80 miles per week and generally put in £35 for that.
Just get it into 5th gear the minute you can, just after 40mph is about right. That reduces cost, and try to keep your speed at a maximum of 55mph, otherwise it does get pricey.
These old things are a hefty build, thats why they can pull 2700k, which is quite high.
My OH likens it to a tractor. (strong, slow, heavy).

£35 = 7 gallons or diesel & you only get 80 miles.... 11.5 miles to the gallon & you think it's not too bad?

katenjack the Terrano should tow the trailer without any problem

We have a Terrano and it pulls our Bateson Ascot perfectly, and thats often with a VERY solid 15.2hh Welsh D in it. I have towed him and a 16hh in it no problem as well. I wouldnt say mine is diesal guzzling by any means!
