I purchased a beautiful Welsh Cob Sec D. My intentions were never to keep him but to produce and eventually find a suitable career path for him in the long run. He had just turned 4 at purchase, I backed him myself and he has been going tremendously. So much so, that I am completely in love with him and is a genuine super star in the making with an amazing character to match.
He has wonderful breeding, a very known history.
Dam was 14.3/15hh and Sire a very chunky 14.1hh.
Both well bred Welsh Cobs.
His grandparents also made 14.2 +.
The smallest in his line has been just one that made 14hh.
He is now rising 5 and has only made 13.2?
His Dam was a late maturer and I also understand the breed doesn’t fully mature until around 7/8.
Question is I just can’t see him growing height wise much more than what he is?
He definitely still has a lot of chunking out to do.
Does any one have any similar stories where the offspring hasn’t made the height expected or had a late growth spurt, especially Welsh cobs?
I have turned him away for a few months so that he can just be a horse to mature a little more.
Praying for a miracle ?
