Had a couple of rather awful schooling sessions with my beastie, and I think its because with the nights drawing in she's in the school too much in a row and getting bored. However, do you think she'd be okay and stand up to a days hunting if on this schedule. (thats what I panic about)

Monday - 20 - 30 mins lunge in harbridge
Tuesday - 40minsish schooling
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - 10/15 mins round the block (possibly followed by 20 - 30 mins lunge in harbidge?)
Friday - 40 minsish schooling
Saturday - 1+ hour hacking/a jumping session
Sunday - Show/1 hour+ hack

Beside that..After an atrocious day today, where I had to give up (I tried everything I could think of and she wasn't having it, so in the end had to just do some good trot work then stop), would you be keen to get her back in the school asap, OR would you say keeping to my plans is better.

My plans wwere
Friday - off cos i'm going to a party
Saturday - Long hack/Jump/Jump then short hack
Sunday - hack (1hourish) then afternoon going to do some showing, or should I not ride, the showing is in-hand..Might not go though as she was awful today but its not ridden..Hmm

Tell me what you think

Thanks

I think, sorry to be a bit down on you, but she'd not do a full day. Just a half day. Then she may get stiff and puffy over night after, but cope I guess.

I think you should be cantering around out on hacks, up hills etc for at least two 2 hour sessions on top of what you're doing. Sos. x

Its ok I just want opinions. At the moment she's doing more work in the school rather than the lunging and she's starting to get bored so just wanting opinions.

No need to apologise

It depends how fit she is generally, I wouldn't think a one week fitness regime is enough for going out hunting, but I have known people take horses hunting that do alot less.

You probably need to do more fittening work whilst out hacking or even in the school.

Oh maybe I should clarify

It's not just this week lol, shes been doing this work...

Monday - 40 mins flatwork
Tuesday - 40 mins flatwork
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - Lunge
Friday - 40 mins flatwork
Saturday - 1 hour or longer hack or jumping
Sunday - 1 hour or longer hack or show

Sorry I didn't mean it to sound like she's unfit now, she's fit enough (I'd say) now but I more meant is that other one enough to keep her fit.

Sorry for the confusion

I agree with Armhole - you would need to be doing a couple of longer sessions a week including uphill work and steady cantering for several weeks to get the horse fit for a days hunting. Half a day would probably be ok.

Thanks, though I'm not sure if you mean to keep her fit or getting fit?

All our hacks are constantly uphill anyway xD

Errm..When you say half day..I'm not very knowledgable hunting lol, my hunt sets off at 12 and does 3 lines, usually back around 4ish latest I suppose due to the light..I can't really remember what time I was back when I went last year, is that a full day or a half day?

xD Thanks
