Will sprenger stirrups help?

I have asked before about recommendations for stirrups to help m with my knackered knee.
However before i splash out on expensive sprengers will they help the fact that i turn my feet out? My tumour in my knee was on the outer ligaments and so now i can't wrap my leg around Hovis without my toes turning out. The ligmaments just won't allow me to do it. So I almost need the stirrup iron to tilt slightly towards the horse as well as encouraging my heels down.
Do sprengers do this?

I know i had problems with a previously sprained ankle because there was too much movement due to the action of the sprengers.
Have you tried a stirrup that has the leather set to the side. Not sure that makes sense, but were you thread the leather through is set towards one side.

I've got the sprenger and the thorowgood (I think?) ones and they are fab, really notice the difference if I ride in a saddle that doesn't have them on them!

The Bow balance ones tilt. I use thorowgood sprenger copies as I have a knee which protests occasionally, and they do help HUGELY. The Bow balance ones are lovely but cant say I noticed a HUGE difference to my own.

I have the cheaper version of the bendy ones, and over the years they have helped with two dodgy knees and a recovering broken ankle.

I have sprengers got them as a birthday present and they are fab. I have curciate damage in my knee and bad ankles, dodgy back... I need shooting really but these stirrups help loads... it may be in my mind but i have tired cheaper ones and didnt find them so good.

These stirrups are amazing. I have osteochondritis in one knee and they do make a huge difference. Get the real ones though, no cheapy lookalikeys.

if hovis had a dodgy knee and needed a support boot that would help with concussion, but cost £90 quid you wouldn't hesitate would you?

I have had over the years 19 seperate treatments on my knees, to be honest they are past the best, I never ride without Sprengers yes I appriciate they are a lot of money for such a small object but worth every single penny, I have the normal sprengers and the bow balance, I cannot recommend them enough and wont use anything else, I would recommend the bow balance over the standard ones any day and you can notice the difference, i cant say about tilting you inwards to be honest, but what I can say is they do for me make a massive difference, and I do not regret getting them in fact you could say they are one of the most important peices of equipment I have ever purchased.

Hope that helps

I got mine for Xmas pressie from my best friend. I am over the moon with them, I can ride for over an hour again without being crippled. Highly recommend them!

My Bow Balance irons are one of the best investments I've made. I get achey ankles and knees if I ride in anything fixed, but the Sprengers stop my knees aching altogether and 99% stop my ankles aching (I tense them so the other 1% is my fault!)
Neither of them will help you keep your toes in IMO.
Normal Sprengers vs Bow Balance - the BB ones have a wider tread which helps me enormously when it comes to keeping my feet in my irons. They allow me to tread down without creating concussion in my legs and therefore give me the confidence to keep my "treading" consistent and I then keep my irons. They are also much easier to get back if I do lose them - I use them back to front though, left on right and right on left (they are marked 'L' and 'R') - as they are twisted slightly.
I actually got my BB ones for £80, which was at the time cheaper than I could find the normal ones for! They are worth the extra to me (if I'm spending a stupid amount on a pair of stirrup irons I may as well go all the way

I also ride in the normal Sprengers at work and love them too!

Thanks weezy - I would be terrified of my foot coming out. How or why my foot would come out i have no idea but the thought of not having metal on one side is freaky! I've got a great idea - as you're a much better rider than me, you try them out, then if you don't die i might try them too

I think my toes trun out because of the pain in my knee and the shortness in my ligaments. Anything that makes me look marginally less than a duck whilst on board would be great and help my old dodgy joints!

Agree with all the other comments - Sprengers all the way for me - can jump off after a 3 hour hack and still have some movement!! Am going to treat myself to the BB for my birthday - am slowly changing all my irons to Sprengers - as some one else said if it was for the horses I wouldn't hesitate in spending the money!!

Do you know anyone local who has some - I think you will notice enough difference straightaway to go and buy some

I've bought the BB recently and love them, my knees hardly ache even after a v long hack

If you are like me, my horse has the best rugs, boots, saddles, supplements etc that he needs, I go limping about like a total scruff too tight to buy myself what I need.

My oh bought my stirrups for my birthday and I'm soooo glad he did. But only because he refused to buy bailey a massage pad, which is what I asked for first!.

oh, and I went for the older system 4 style rather than the bow balance for 2 reasons.

1. they were less BLUE, i preferred slightly more understated, esp for comps.

2. i didn't like the offset curvy thing going on and have heard that it can be hard to get stirrups back if you lose them.

I have Sprenger stirrups and to be honest I haven't noticed that much difference in them, but perhaps I need reminding how traditional stirrups feel!!
I did notice that once or twice my ankle twisted in them......

For some odd reason, if you use them in the correct way (with the one stamped 'L' on the left and the one stamped 'R' on the right) they are difficult to get back as they twist away from your foot. I use mine the wrong way round and they are easier than normal (straight) irons to retrieve if necessary!
