I am converting some old cow sheds into stables They are 16.5ft by 15ft. I have left 5 sheds this size for my horses though they look a bit lost in them. However I have two ponies one 13.2 and one 11.2 do you think if I split the last shed into two i.e 8ft by 15ft each these stables will be too narrow. They are used to 10x12 stables. I can't knock down any of the walls to change size or shape unfortunately I can only add internal partitions. Also this last shed the roof is quite low at 7ft 6.

Really not sure as always had standard size stables before on livery but now have own land and outbuildings.

We have just split a 14ft x 16ft stable into 2, put a partition across the middle with a stable door, so now have 2 stables measuring 14ft x 8ft. The Exmoor pony is very happy in there, but a 13.2 would probably find it too cramped overnight, particularly with such a low roof.

The pony is a very fine arab type and the roof is 7ft 6 at its lowest going up to 8ft by 3ft into the long side. I too will be puting a stable door in the middle so that the one will have to walk through the others stable to get in. I put a temp barrier in to see what they look like in there but i am just not sure if they look too small because i have got used to the giant stables the others are in...Trouble is with the storm supposed to come on monday i really would like them in so would have to put up partition this weekend.

Could they share the barn as is? Some people I know do this with their smaller type equines - they seem quite settled together but then are used to it.

To be honest they would probably kill each other! The big horses would share happily but these two just don't get along very well. The little mare doesnt appreciate any other horse/pony in her personal space! In the field she has been known to lie down on a pile of hay so noone else can share. The 13.2 can also be quite mareish.

Pop two of the big horses in together if all else fails then :) Good luck with your stabling.

Could you maybe go 7' and 9' (or 7'6" and 8'6" if you think 7' is really too small) rather 2x8'? The 11.2 could probably get away with that and it would give the 13.2 a bit more room?

I had a 12 x 12 divided for just 1 winter when the fields got very boggy - had an exmoor yearling in 1 side & a section A in the other.
We made the partition so they could get their heads over to touch each other but it was easier for them to turn etc.
Did the job & nobody suffered overnight :)
