I adopted a rescue dog (Bertie) about 8 weeks ago. He's a 14-month Miniature Pinscher who came into rescue with his sister from the breeder.
He has a number of issues, not least being scared of cars, the dark, people, bicycles, no housetraining, little obedience and not many manners!
He gets on well with Bella - she's the top dog in the family, and soon put him in his place when he got a little too playful.
The problem I am having is with my other dog - he's 7 and fairly laid back - Bertie desperately wants to play with Jasper, but Jasper just doesn't want to know. He may half-heartedly play tug with a sock or may have a quick run around, but most of the time, he will growl, quite fiercely at Bertie, and move away from him. Sometimes they may sit together on the sofa nicely, but most of the time they are on different sofas with Jasper giving Bertie the "evils". It hasn't actually progressed into a full on fight yet, and I am not sure it will as Jasper, while vocal, isn't very aggressive, he is very passive.
Eventually, it will be just Jasper and Bertie on their own, as Bella is getting on in years and her health is not so good now.
I am considering sending Bertie back to the rescue - it would absolutely break my heart, as he is such a dear little thing and is really improving in his behaviour and with his phobias, he will now go out into the garden in the dark, which is a massive achievement for him.
So my question is, will they ever get on? Will they find their comfort zone and chill together
