I bought this Barnsby saddle at auction when I got Samba as she was meant to be only a project, got saddler out was over the moon that a £60 saddle fitted her like a glove.

However it has always had this rip which is why I got it cheap. But at the time it didn't bother me.But now pony has a home of life (with me :) )I want it looking nicer. I have been riding on it with a saddle protector. The foam underneath hasnt been damaged/ got damp.

Will it break the bank do you think to have it repaired??

Also Can anyone recommend me a good saddle around Chichester area.

My pony who is out on loan has a saddle with this exact aliment. I was quoted some rediculous price to have it repaired so never bothered they were saying the entire seat would need replacing, but her loaner asked if we wouldn't mind it being patched and said her saddler will repair it but it may not be pretty. We don't mind as it is a good fit but ancient!! So this may be the case with yours, depends on the saddler i guess!

Get some quotes for repair. If you like the saddle, its comfy for you and horse, worth the money getting it fixed!

This is what Ithink, I dont mind it just being patched.

Try messaging Cremedemonthe on here, he's not too far away, really knows his stuff when it comes to saddlery/leather work, and he definitely wouldn't rip you off.

a new seat would be the smartest but also the most expensive, you need someone with experience at it as it could look a right old mess otherwise! You are looking in the region of £200, poss more. A patch would be about a 1/10th of that, obv you would see it, but if you are always sat over the patch then it is just for you to know about! The leather would prob not match exactly in terms of colour as the seat is prob a little faded.
Comes down to how much it bothers you and how much of a perfectionist you are about the finish, both solutions would protect the foam underneath.
