Hi, haven't posted much in here as I've not done any showing but hopefully that is about to change! Am going to an unnafiliated show on Saturday to give my youngster his first taste of showing, which hopefully will turn into a summer full of it as I am moving to a new yard where one of the local riding clubs is based and they are very keen on competing/pleasure rides/lessons etc. He's a coloured cob (the hairy sort - can't remember the official catagory!) and will be in an in-hand and ridden class.
My question is - what colour tie/shirt to wear? I will be wearing buff coloured jods, black jod boots&garters (will get long leather boots at some point), a green hacking jacket, brown leather gloves, brown cane and a skull cap with blue velvet cover (again, will get a proper velvet hat if he takes to it). I think you're supposed to wear a coloured shirt and have been told that women should wear navy hats so it makes choice of shirt&tie a bit difficult! Any advice gratefully received! Thanks in advance.

Sounds great, although I've not heard that you have to wear a blue hat, I've seen green jacket and green hat looking good, a mint shirt would go, or you could go with brown hat cover and fawny beige shirt? Just have some fun anyway good luck

Blue hat would look best. Maybe a pale yellow shirt? You can try the duster trick and buy a cheap tesco duster and put it in the wash with a white shirt if you can't find one. Make sure that it is tight enough at the neck, saggy shirt collars look awful!

Your horse sounds as though he is a Traditional Coloured cob. I would definitely go with a brown velvet cover on your cap, together with a fawn/cream shirt and poss. red tie. Don't forget a hairnet and cut round the corners of your number and tie it with a long brown boot-lace for a very professional look. NO numnah, boots, martingale, flash/drop nose-band any showing classes. For in-hand, wear exactly the same, including cap.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all replies! I managed to find a dark green tie that matches the collar of my jacket and has little blue squares so it'll match my navy hat cover. I got a shirt of a similar colour to the one FMM & dun4 suggested, a sort of pale yellow/fawn colour. Am very excited and looking forward to it - I'm sure he'll spend most of the time with his head in the ai staring at everyone else as he's really nosy but as long as we enjoy it I don't mind!
