Looks like they're trying to run some younger horses with a view to Hong Kong. Bet Georgie never dreamed of being in that position a couple of months ago! Well done her.
What does Ruth Edge have to do to get picked! By far the best dressage performer of all 6 and a reliable horse who has won a 4* against the best of the germas (who lets face it are the favs for gold at the euro's).
I think Lucy W deserves a chance - Shaabrak's had decent enough form - won Gatcombe AI, consistent and quick across country (one 20 pens since 2003!), good dressage 5th at Saumur etc. OK he had a bit of a mare SJ at Barbury with 4 down (didn't see it as got there too late so not sure why - but looked like it was pretty difficult with the bank up one end) but was clear at Saumur and Gatcombe.
Not sure why, but i think the team selectors have never liked Ruth Edge, she's never been one of the 'in' crowd.. god only knows why, but i remember something happening right back when she was doing young riders, and they'd never been keen on her since!!

Had a bit of a nightmare last year out in Germany SJing too, i think team horses have to be a bit more reliable SJing than poor old Ross is.
Ballincoola retired on the s'chase at Badminton after he had an abnormal heartrate, 2 years ago, maybe that's why he's been overlooked, as soundness is one of the selectors priorities.
Think the selectors, are thinking of the future by the looks of it, Hong kong, good on them I think thats a good team!
The BE Site says that
The following four horses will be third reserves:
Jo May
Horse: Faere Vision
Owner: Peter May
Lucy Wiegersma*
Horse: Shaabrak
Owner: Mark Lean
Francis Whittington
Horse: Sir Percival III
Owner: Margrete Paget
Heidi Woodhead
Horse: The Biz
Owner: Peter and Pauline Simmons & Rider
So who Do you think will be the team of four and the 2 individuals?
I Think the team will be Mary,Oli,Zara and sharon
and Daisy and geargie as individuals.
hmm shocked that wfp is not in team, he seems so solid and secure but maybe they are thinking of hong kong.
well done to georgie-what a lovely mare! daisy is a bit of a suprise but hopefully she and spring along will pull it together, two tyme must definatley be lame otherwise they couldnt leave him out. well done to sharon hunt aswell i hope she makes the team.
Personally I cannot see how the selectors are looking to the future.
Spring Along 14
Toytown 14
CAC 15
Fachoudette 14
Tankers Town 13
Only Flint is young at 11. Yes the Olympics are next year but then this should be the year they get younger horses and take a risk before the Olympics where surely a younger horse will be more advantageous. After all Euros are only 3*. Georgie Davies definately deserves the experience. To me its not a team that leaps out medal winners. I do not think it has any really strong individuals apart from Zara. Last year at WEG it was down to Zara and Daisy double clears that got them the silver over a very tricky xc as both MK and WFP had stops. The course at WEG was 4* and the Euros are never as tough so good dressage counts.
Personally I think the Germans and French will be very strong.
Heidi is 3rd reserve which I am pleased with as she has had a fab season. I know the chance of her going is slim but it is so nice to see some fresh names on the selection.
"he (william) is not expecting a call-up for this year's Europeans. The reasons are a.) he believes the selectors will want to trial "new generation" riders so they can be tested prior to the Olympia Games b.) he's saving Tamarillo for Beijing c.)Idalgo, a likley Pratoni contender is off the road with a leg "problem" and d.) he's rather take Ballincoola to Burghley".
Then goes on to say "I don't mind the selectors giving the young guard a shot at the Europeans. I'm much better off with the chance of winning some prize money where Ballincoola has a good record than going to the championships. He's got the abilty to be highly placed and on his day a winner".
Just wanted to say how chuffed I am for Heidi being picked as a reserve. I have training with her and have known her for ages as her dad is my godfather. She's a fab teacher and deserves all the success she's had this year after all the bad luck she's had with the Biz going lame and then breaking her leg. Not wishing anyone else bad luck but I would love to see her get to Pratoni. Go Heidi!!
