Good article - it's so easy to lose sight of the fact that for most of us horses are a hobby and such an expensive, time consuming hobby needs to be fun and bring enjoyment otherwise what is the point. I will never forget a friend of mine who battled with a very difficult horse for several years resulting in broken bones etc. The horse had to be put down (very sad and nothing to do with behaviour) and she bought a super duper fun cob - she came back from a hack just after she'd bought the cob with a huge smile on her face, breathed a massive sigh of relief and said that she'd finally remembered why she rode horses in the first place and this was what it was all about!

When I lost my first horse to laminitis I swore I would not become emotionally attached to my new one, but guess what, I love, respect and admire her just as much, and always try and put her needs before mine. Just seeing her, no matter how filthy she is, just brightens my day. Don't think she feels the same way though sometimes!
