News on main HH page. What the hell? They're offering a 2yo horse as a raffle prize? What a stupid idea. The horse could easily end up in the wrong hands, he says there's no more risk of that that it being sold at auction but at an auction - people there go to buy a horse. With a raffle, people won't think they'll actually win, they'll just play for the fun of it I bet.

I think its awful

I'd liked to have thought that the Hand knew better than to do something so ignorant and irresponsible.

dont really see the problem-do we know of any T&Cs involved? the last one I was aware of had extensive conditions including a home vetting? relax your knees-all that jerking has to hurt

so...doesnt that make you think that actually its been well thought out, that they wouldnt risk their reputation on something silly and that it needs more checking out before you condemn it out of hand?

Unless there are more terms and conditions that are not available on the website, it would seem you only have to answer 6 questions. I can't remember them all but there's "where would you find the frog?" and "what is the maximum height for a pony?"- not exactly testing your ability to cope with a 2 year old! Another condition is that you must be able to take the horse away by 5pm on New Year's Eve/Day (one or the other) or you forfeit the horse. Seems a bit nuts to me.

no, you can find out the facts, question what you are told and not accept everything blindly as truth. otherwise people would believe what they read in the papers and buy magnetic poll doojits!

Top Reply, DV....PMSL!!!!!!

Well that rather restricts who gets it. When is the closing date? (sorry, I know I should look it all up)

OK. These are the T&C's

[ QUOTE ]

*Terms and conditions: 1. Horse sold as seen, no warranties. 2. A minimum of 250 tickets must be sold before the competition ends,
if less than 250 tickets are sold then a full refund will be made. 3. Horse to be taken from site on New Years day
by 5pm or it will be forfeited. 4. Only correct answers to all questions will be entered into the draw. 5. The judges decision is final.

[/ QUOTE ]

There does not appear to be a 'closing' date given, but what is written suggests it will be 31st December. From that it would seem the winner will be notified on 1st January and the horse must be gone by 5pm. For those without their own transport, this will pose a huge problem.

I think the must be taken by 5:00 comment insures whoever wins, is capable of taking care of it. As if they are not, they are unlikely to be able to get it, and house it in that short amount of time.

I don't think that means anything! Lots of people have their own land and might just think they could stick it in a field. Setting a date on it means nothing. Their terms and c*ap. Cant believe some of you aren't bothered with this!

i think they are thinking everyone is like the lady who won the horse about 16years ago who had him till he died, unfortunatly not everyone is like that

Doesn't the guy say that the competition is likely to be won by someone already involved with the hand and they will offer them help? I think that's what it said.
Well that sounds perfectly alright to me - a lot more support than if you bought privately.

yes they did say that, also means they already know who is going to be "pulled from the hat" ie its a fix!!! lol!! Would have possibly bought a ticket but come on who honestly thinks they will draw it fairly!!! the fact they have said it is "likely" to be won by someone involved with The Hand.....bit of a giveaway!

Same happened at Rock N Blues draw for Harley Davidson! Went to one of their mates!! Unless there are independant raffle organisers involved I wouldnt waste my money.

I personally find it fascinating that anyone is willing to enter given that there is no time of draw? The horse is available for viewing during a show run until the 31st, so the draw could be made any time up to 5pm??

Not necessarily, it could just mean if you are not someone who competes there reasonably regularly or whose name doesn't show up on a search of BE/BD/BSJA databases etc as an owner or rider then they will refuse to sell you a ticket, thus ensuring that not any numpty with no knowledge of horses can just turn up and win...

There is, as always, more than one way to interpret the comment.

Must say I am very tempted to enter as I have a friend who has somewhere to keep it for a cut and who can pick it up if I win as I'm away on NYD.

I know the people running this competition well.
It is not a fixed draw, they are fully expecting serious purchasers only and it will all be done very fairly.
The guy who picked the horse out is very knowledgeable, has a fantastic eye for a horse and trust me, their reputation is worth much more than this horse!!

Any old person can pick a cheap horse up at the sales, I dont see whats different here?

Hmm...guess they couldn't sell their 2y.o filly either

What a great idea, I should have thought of this for Rhi!

I heard someone did a similar thing with a house several years ago, they made double the worth of their house too!

If it is not fixed then why are they not giving a time and place for the draw and giving details of who is drawing the ticket etc? very odd way to go about it. I would love to enter, and would be happy to but not enough rules and terms and conditions for me to believe that it professional and correct draw.

I honestly think it is above board - I was there yesterday and spoke to them briefly about it, they were very happy to talk about it!

They are running a big multiday BSJA show finishing on the 1st so I assume the draw will be on the 1st and someone will take it home in a space on their lorry. I think (pure speculation no inside info) they are banking on selling most of the tickets at that show - it is pre-entry only (the show) IIRC.

With the number of temp stables up they are clearly expecting a big turnout to the show.

if it was anything special surely they would keep it for emily ( the daughter) to ride.
they brought a ja off me, and are really not short of money but thats not the point. i do think they would of thought about things first because as boss says, they are not idiots.
