So, we have taken advantage of the BD Membership for Eventers for the forthcoming winter months.
Having never done any Aff Dressage... what do we need to know? Any tips?

We have two horses going...one at BE 100 and one just stepping up to do BE Intermediate tests. Both are full TB's, and I am thinking we will look very out of place :(

What sort of tests should we aim for? What are the best venues to us... we are just south of Cambridge... dress code? What is the day like...you have your times so how long does the day last? How many tests would you recommend for a day out?

Haha... so many questions!! but I really want to make the most of our membership :)

Thanks, as ever. :)

Edit : No idea why it says win in the title! I didn't type that! Maybe it's a hidden message - yeah, right. :p

What sort of tests should we aim for? I would start at Nov for the more experienced horse and Prelim for the other, once you've found your feet move up a level

What are the best venues to us... we are just south of Cambridge... Keysoe, Fenning Farm, Norton Heath, Bluegates, Finchingfield, The Jays, Queach, Patchetts? and prob some more

dress code? Tweed and skull is fine, for the lost eventer look. Or you can go Navy/black with a velvet or crash hat

What is the day like...you have your times so how long does the day last? I always aim to get there an hour before first test. Many places self steward so helpers are useful. It's good, you have times so days can be quite short, always take a SAE to have your sheets posted to you if you think you aren't placed and class is large

How many tests would you recommend for a day out? I would saay a max of 2 tests per horse. Tests can be read so no problem remembering 4 tests

You won't look out of place, loads of TB types down our way.

Ditto, 2 tests per horse.

Navy jacket with navy crash hat more often seen, but some people in tweed so you won't look too out of place, plus the judges don't mind anyway!

I guess you have a bridle no from eventing but you will need this...

Don't forget, no boots, bandages, martingales etc!

Honestly you won't look out of place at all. There are lots of TB types my way too! I very rarely see anybody wearing tweed/crash hats if I'm honest, 99% people wear navy/black jackets, peaked hats and white breeches. However, it's allowed in the rule book so just don't worry about it, wear what you have and go for it! Good luck! Oh, and take lots of pictures so you can share your successes with us here :)
