Last Saturday I went up to feed and turn out my horse, I noticed her legs was massively inflamed, she was hopping lame and dragging her toe.

My immediate reaction was cold hose, bute and check for abscess. So I cold hosed buted, poulticed, ice tighted and bandaged - to cover all bases.

I didn't give her anymore bute after that first one incase it was an abscess I don;t want it tracking up her leg, I left the poultice on for just over 24-hours and there was definite pus and stench.

I called in the farrier who removed her shoe and confirmed that there was definite Pus coming from the sides of her frog, advised to tub and poultice for 3-days. I did this and pus continued to come out for several days clearing up by the Thursday/Friday morning, the sweeling ahd disappeared more or less with the poulticing and tubbing after the first day, just had a little around the fetlock, no heat though. The vet was visiting the on Friday just gone, so I thought I would get him to check her over for piece of mind, maybe give her a shot of anti-biotic if necessary.

He came in said she had never had an abscess and that it was her tendon sheath behind her windgall, I was unfortunately not there as I had something on I could not get out of. so my yard owner held her for me. He advised, 1-weeks box rest, bute and see how she is, if no improvement scan her.

I am currently waiting for the vet to call me so I can discuss things directly with him rather than go off messages and ask any questions I have but does anyone have any advice, thoughts, experiences.

She is an 18-year (young) mare, who does have windgalls on both hinds the near hind more prominent than the off hind but they ahve never bothered her before.

I am currently doing this every day, buting twice, walking in hand for 10-mins, gentle cold hosing her tendon for 15-mins, bandaging at night for support.

Any thoughts advice would be most welcome.
