Hello! So, my TB mare is 25 and last week noticed swelling on hind leg, just above the fetlock. She is not at all lame, tho there was some heat. As she would rather do 25 dressage tests in a row than stay in a stable for any length of time, I left her out thinking the snow would cool it anyway.
It's still there a wk later and still heat, no lameness, and she doesn't mind it being picked up or touched.
What I don't understand is that she's never worked v hard, and at the moment lives a life of Riley, she's done abt one walk hack in the last month. I thought windgalls were usually associated with hard work? Could b wrong tho...
If it is a windgall and does sound normal despite no work and no lameness, is there much I or my vet can do?!

Thank you!

Xx

Hi, mare I look after came in with a bit of swelling in her hindleg, lower part and her ankle was swollen. I call it that but really the fetlock area. That was last Saturday after she had been out in the snow and I put it down to doing a bit too much playing, shes 18! Kept her in sun, mon tues and today because of ice, and gave her some bute. I did put her in the turnout area which is small but enough to stretch her legs yesterday and today for about an hour and her leg is now back to normal. She too wasnt lame on it.

Hope that helps.

thank you v much for your help! I think I'll get vet out and have a chat with them - she has been a little stiffer lately so prob arthritis causing fluid. thank you!
