windgalls (with pics)

Roos windgalls are huge! She's had them since before I got her and they don't seem to affect her. I put brushing boots on her front legs every time I ride.
Do you think they will start to affect her as she gets older? She's 15 now

A horse at our yard gets these from the hard ground, they are very soft. Her owner says she only has to worry if they were to go hard. This horse is 26 and is still ridden normally so hopefully you wont have a problem

The only shoeing technique (product) i have seen that actually improves windgalls was useing Easywalker horse shoes.

Ive shod a horse with ones as large as these and they completely dissapeared it was amazing.

As far as soundness goes no they will not cause a problem, they are caused by heavy work/jumping and so if she becomes stiffer as she gets older it would be from this and not from the windgalls themselves.
 
my horse has windgalls from the concusion of racing. i feed him windgall from global herbs which is fab as it helps the synivol fluid in the joints which cause windgalls. in the winter when he is in i put stable wraps on his back legs to stop it building up.
 
I was also going to suggest the global herbs windgalls supplement, you could also try magnet therapy (I honestly don't know how effective it is, but I do believe magnet therapy helped with my dogs arthritis treatment)

Ooh, how do they work? Do they look different to regular shoes?
 
PapaFrita, they are a rubber shoe that are solid enough to support the foot but flexible enough to move with it as well. They are pretty amazing at removing windgalls which of course are exaserbated by hard ground. here is a link to their website it explaines it better: http://www.easywalkerhorseshoes.com/

sort of like wearing trainers. They are great for horses with Navicular or other similar problems as well

They do indeed look very different they are green and yellow
