Hi all,

Fred has a new field buddy and he is fabulous in every way. They seem to be getting on really well but i'm worried because he is a windsucker. Do you think that windsucking is learned behaviour because if it is, Fred (what with all his other vices) will never be let into another livery yard again

Finnigan (the new horse) does have one of those collars but it seems a shame to put it on him at all times.

From what I understand of wind-sucking, it used to be thought of something copied around a yard. But now it's believed to be horse gets release of endorphins from the action which soothes stomach pains.

So presumably that means horse in no pain won't copy it.

But I'm sure others on H&H who are much more informed than me will give you a better answer!
