Hi there, just looking for comments on Winergy Equilibrium Low Energy feed. I've a 15.3hh German Warmblood who is competing at Pre Novice Eventing (and looking to go Novice in May) and Discovery/Newcomers BSJA that I am struggling to find a feed for. He has suffered gastric ulcers, is a complete stress head, crib bites, windsucks and will box walk if he has time!!!!! Oh and a fussy eater in as much as he seems to get bored with his hard feed!! I've had him on Saracen Re-leve but my local feed merchant don't stock it and am losing the will to live travelling for it. Although I/he loves this stuff and he looks amazing.

Have been looking at the Winergy site and wondering if this is the way to go. I'm not worried about all his habits, they are part of who he is, although I do try to keep starch to a minimum and oil as high as we can just for his tummy. He also has turn out all day and ad-lib (excellent) hay.

He doesn't lack condition nor does he need an ounce more energy!! You would never guess he has all these vices if you met him.

Any advice would be welcomed.
 
I had my horse on it over winter as she can be a stresshead at times and tends to lose condition during the winter months. She maintained condition and wasn't any more lively than normal!:)
 
I've just been trialling it for them with my horse, he really liked the feed (he's a fussy eater too), great as you don't need to buy lots of different feeds, all balanced etc, it has helped improve his condition but he still crib bites without a collar and his attitude did seem improved at first but he has now returned to rodeo style broncing when he feels like it. He's been on it for one month.
 
Why dont you ring round some feed companies and see what they suggest.

I only say that as Winergy low is low energy feed for horses in light work. Re-leve although very low in starch is a high performance, high energy feed. Other similar feeds to re-leve that are low starch are the stay power cubes from D&H, power and performance from Allen and page and the slow release cubes from spillers.

I also think the winery low is very expensive for what it is. It's basically a fancy version of D&H high fibre nuts, has almost the same ingredients just a different form...
 
Winergy low has only 3.5% starch compared to D&H high fibre cubes at 13.5%It also has a higher % of fibre compared to the D&H. I have to be careful with the starch content, hence why I chose Winergy!:D:eek:
 
my mare was a 16hh TB exracer, 10yo, complete stress head, had ulcers, poor doer, extremely fussy and box walked. I tried everything! eventually was on winergy senior because it was reccommeded by trainer and them, slightly more energy than the low. She had lots of natural energy but she need to gain a bit of weight. She was aiming at competing intro, she did a BE80 but unfortunately i lost her in a freak accident the week after this. The winergy was the only feed she ate happily and never refused! so i loved it for all those reasons!
 
I've had my horse on it for over 3 years. I wouldn't say it's completely fixed his inattentiveness and tendency to jump at the slightest noise, but he's certainly much better than he was when I first had him. His weight is consistent and he looks fab, and seems to like it too. I've heard other people say they think it's expensive, but I don't agree. I pay £10 bag for it which lasts 6 days, but don't have to feed anything else with it.
In the summer when he's competing regularly I replace some of it with some medium energy which seems to work fine.
 
Thanks for all your comments, I picked up a bag on Monday and Alf seems to be enjoying it! For the moment!!

We'll see how he goes for energy because whether he's on hard feed or not he is completely 'wired' as my instructor calls him!

It will be weight loss with travel and competing that might find us on the hard feed trail again.

Definitely recommend Winergy feed. My t/b mare has been feed this food for over two years now and she has maintained a level head, fantastic body condition and great overall performance. I have also kept her on the Winergy range during her pregnancy.
