I am in the process of switching from Winergy Equilibrium Condition which mine have been on all winter to Medium Energy, simply due to the fact they are looking rather 'well' at the moment and no longer need a conditioning feed.

I've spoken to Winergy who recommend the Medium Energy but I am slightly concerned in case the higher starch level heats one of mine up. I recently looked into changing to a Baileys feed which is 22% starch but after posting on here I decided against it as that level seems quite high. The Medium has 14% starch so I'm sure it will be fine but I just wondered if anyone on here has used it for a sharp fizzy horse and how they got on.

Thank you

So would you say it gives them a lot of extra energy? Actually I guess it depends on what you were feeding before! It's just that mine is absolutely great on the Condition apart from the fact her weight is just right now and I don't want her to put anymore on now the grass is finally through.

Do you mind me asking why you have changed off it as it sounds like you are no longer feeding it.

Thank you

Winergy Condition has a starch level of 10% (energy 11.1 MJ/kg), Winergy Medium has a starch level of 14% (energy 12.4MJ/kg). It's not a huge difference in starch level compared to what some feeds are (Cool Mix is about 20%!!). If you are really concerned then Spillers Response Slow Release Energy Cubes have an energy level of 11MJ/kg and a starch level of 12%. Something to consider. :)

Thank you Walrus, I've actually spoken to Spillers about the Response feeds & they recommended the Slow Release cubes - however they are actually the same company as Winergy Equilibrium and without actually saying it in so many words they thought the Equilibrium Medium Energy might be the best thing to try first!

Where did you get the kj/kg info from in your post please because from what you have said the Medium is actually more calorific than the Condition, yet the site I looked at definately has the Condition with more calories per kg (which would make sense)!

Woops sorry, they're the wrong way round! *slaps wrist* sorry, it's been a long week. And yep, I know they are part of the same company (in fact I know them very well ;) . Got all the nutritional breakdowns from their websites - incidentally I think Mars Horsecare (Spillers and Winergy) are one of the very few that publish their starch levels which is very useful!

Yes I've struggled to find starch levels for other companies but the Mars companies have great sites. Can I pick your knowledge a bit more then?! Winergy also mentioned Senior if i am concerned about starch levels as it is between the Medium & Low and has a very low starch of about 4%. After thinking this through I've discounted the Senior as I think the starch rate may be too low as we do some low level competing & she gets ridden 5 times a week including schooling. What do you think?

Spillers have sent me a lovely brochure today so I'm going to have a good look at the Response Slow Release Cubes - oh why is it such a minefield!!
