what do you think about them? a cause for concern?

reason im asking is because my horse seems to have "grown" one on his hind leg, and i would like to know if they are a cause for concers

hosing and tubbing can help if the wingall is enlarged from recent exercise/trauma, but in general once a horse has developed wingalls they are there to stay. If they are over large it may be worth talking to your vet

the thing is windgalls are normal, alot of show jumpers will have them

they are nothing to be worrid about unless they are significantly swollen.
 
I just recently had my horse vetted, and the vet made a comment towards the end of the vetting (after making a real point to the prospective buyer that my mare had really clean legs and well done me....) that she had slight windgalls - but he just said that they are so common in so many horses that they are virtually considered normal, and it is verging on rare for a horse not to have them.

just was a little worried that he may not stand up to the hard work in eventing

indeed, they are quite normal.. Andy has them on 3 out of 4 legs, they go up and down with the weather/stabling/exercise.

make sure you keep an eye on them and get to know what is normal for that time of day/year etc.... my vet said if they get taught/painful/horse goes lame then would be the time to get them looked at..
 
Actually I wasn't aware they were as common on hindlegs and were more likely to appear on front legs due to concussion from jumping. Are you sure it's not just a knock?

Anyhow, not really a cause for concern, it's just the body protecting itself.
