are wingalls bad? what damage can they be a form of / can they cause much damage?

reason i ask is because my horse seems to have grown one on his hind leg. should i be worried as he is an event horse?

they are more of a visual dislike. usually they dont cause much harm, i had one who had quite big ones and they never caused any trouble. sometimes if they are really big there may be a rick of them putting pressure on tendons/ ligaments but this would be rare. if u think they are getting bigger than usual, espically in summer on hard ground, then cold hosing them for 15mins or so helps reduce them and the medicine boots (then ones that go round there fetlocks!) seem to help alot but they will never go right away. as long as you keep an eye on them and manage them properly they shouldnt cause you a problem!

hope this helps!

I would add that they often don't seem to cause many problems but remember that they are caused by fluid leaking out from the joint capsule itself into the surrounding tissue. There is always a reason for this and this might be something you want to look into.
