Hey all, I just thought I'd do a little update to let you all know how Wings is doing. He's off box rest, as the wound on his hoof has closed up and hardened. He was never lame, even when off bute. I can also ride him again! Just in the school at the minute so he isn't walking on stones or anything, but it's a start. Luckily, the vet said that the wound was caused by breaking, rather than friction, so no further hoof had to be removed. He's going to get shoes put on once there has been slightly more hoof growth, and then I can start hacking him out.
He's coming back into work surprisingly well, and doesn't seem to have lost very much fitness at all. Here's a picture of us schooling the a couple of days ago. I know his mouth is open, but he was very relaxed considering this was the second time riding him since he got injured.
He has been so good to ride, was never silly or stupid. I've been riding him for about 5 days, just slowly building it back up, but it doesn't look like it'll take too long before he's back to full fitness! The next step is to try and load him, see if he will load after the incident.
Thank you all for the vibes, they clearly paid off! I may need them for a little longer though, as I managed to sprain my hand this morning after I'd ridden, so not sure if I can actually ride or not...
