A very hot day which doesn't suit Chocx as he is 16 and an idle devil to boot..
As ever CCJ did no warm up but went straight over to the dressage, a nice test which produced 29.1. She lost marks on the give and take the reins and the free walk on a long rein, playing safe and not asking enough.
The showjumping was apparently running to time so she went over ten mins prior to her time and warmed up, saw the steward who said 7 people in front of you..
went away and walked quietly, went back 15 mins later, "Oh 9 in front of you now!"
Repeated with Chocx steadily falling asleep by the minute. She went back again, and to her annoyance there were now 10 in front of him!!! She protested as she was actually due on the XC at this point and had no chance of making that..
In all she had to wait over 40 mins and he was half asleep, so what happened next shouldn't have come as a surprise. She came in, cantered round, approached the first fence and as he wasn't quite right he stopped dead. I don't know who was more shocked, me or her. Normally if they get the stride wrong he does an exuberant leap and gets out of trouble, but obviously he just couldn't be ar**d to do that today.
She whacked him and he flew the next few fences, but as she was hurtling round to try not to get time faults he flattened over the last double and had both down..
Infuriating because she had been lying fourth after the dressage so in with a good chance.
She set off on the XC course with nothing to lose, and he flew round, fast and clear.
They ended up 11th just out of the rosettes, and as I said on the way home, we really shouldn't feel miffed if on his bad day he ends up 11th!!
We have decided some showjumping help is needed before the next comp and will be concentrating on that, his dressage seems fine now as does the XC, so some grid work at home and some help from her trainer will be sought.
Next event is a week on Wednesday so hopefully enough time to sort things out.
Didn't see Cheeky Girl but did see Miss de Meena who would have been in the ribbons but for a very nasty skinny fence that caught loads of horses out.
As we left Bossanova was about to start her XC, so don't know how she did.
Amazing to watch the Wiegersma yard in action, all 33 of them.. Just think how much the entry fees must have cost...

I'm looking forwards to a day at home tomorrow, just had a really good soak in the spa and feel so much better now..off to bed..

Well done! Sounds like a great day!! It's so boring waiting, not surprised the pony fell to sleep!

What class were you doing?

Pre Novice, just realised from looking at the results, they ended up 12th not 11th.
I tend to feel unless an accident has made things run late they shouldn't allow a free for all in the showjumping, if you have a time they should try and stick to it.
The steward went for lunch and the replacement just allowed people to go when they were ready..

Oh not too bad at all. Shame about the sjing, thats what happened at BCA for me. Too long hanging around, horse over cooked but went the other way and was so wound up he just carted me and took fences left right and centre.

Its just starting to rain here, Im off to the yard as soon as HB11 arrives to plait his lordship and leave by 930 for aston.
Rain is starting to fall now, unless theyve watered the ground, im not sure I will run today.

Vx

such a shame about the SJing or theywould have won

o well glad chox was clear xc.
OMG 33 from one yard guessing other riders are based with her then?

Well done - I get so wound up before SJ anyway I think that would have annoyed me so much.
Where next? Are you going to Urchinwood?

yes 33! Jade Lazenby, Caroline Creighton and Austin O'Connor rode the majority, with lots of their WP riding the rest.
I think Lucy was competing elsewhere.
Their yard is within a few miles so perhaps they did a few swaps, I don't know.
It looked to be running pretty smoothly every time I walked past their boxes, but I didn't envy them!
An idea on the box next to us looked useful, a white board fastened to the inside of the living door so that once opened anyone could see what their times were..I might do that myself.
We keep being so near to winning sooner or later he will do it then we will move up to Novice. he's now doing constistantly good dressage and Xc so if we can just crack the SJ...
C also talked with a couple of riders about going as a WP for a while this winter when our horses are resting.
I think it would benefit her and she is actually pretty useful as she's especially good at schooling the youngsters on the flat, as both Jacques and Layla show.
After Monty she can ride any difficult horse too, which is a bonus!
I did email the Fredericks but they never replied, one good local rider has said yes but no accommodation, so that's out, and I think she needs to have a lesson or two with anyone first to see if they gel.. So many people can ride well but not get the rest over when teaching.
Now if Lucinda Green was looking that would be ideal.....

Hi Lec, yes entry has gone off to Urchinwood, then I think it's Bricky?
Not a lot left to go to for us SW lot is there, we are now making winter plans.
Chocx will have a couple of months off but he will stay fit because he field walks anyway. Then we plan to register him BD as the trainer says he is ready and we will compete him through the winter. Layla will come back into work and be schooled for a month then sold.
Jacques is getting a tiny splint so we are going easy on him at present, but daren't stop riding him regardless, he will Sj and dressage all winter too.
We have a three year old to start today, not ideal but this week I have had vets bill of £1680, Range Rover bill of £1250 in yesterday's post, so it's "Let's sell some horses" time again! I gasped with shock when I opened the garage bill, and it kept me subdued for a while yesterday...
She isn't very big but such a lovely mare, we had planned to keep her for CCJ but needs must as they say. We have already had two event riders ask about her when she was a yearling, so fingers' crossed people still like her at three.
Also coming in today is the other Matinee, again not big, but he will do the basics then go to the Wiegermas to be backed and hope they know a buyer..
I've got a two year old, several yearlings etc, so we are going to be pretty busy with that lot to smarten up..
I do need to cut down and before C goes off to train somewhere I need to pay those bills!!!!!!!
Are you at Urchinwood too?

Yep am going to bite the bullet and go straight in at novice. Despite not having done any xc or dressage since June!! I was out jumping haybales last night we have the really big long ones and getting some incredible angles. Was very naughty had 2 close by on an acute angle did not walk the distance and he jumped fine. I am going futher north for the rest of the season apart from Bricky (which reminds me must ring Bricky as they say the novice is day before and that would not be good). West Wilts, Monmouth, Charlton Park and Broadway.
I am off SJ all week from Weds so hoping to batter my riding and nerves over it into submission and jump some 1.10 classes.
Do not forget to ring for your times at Urchinwood! I always forget stupid place not being on internet!!
