Winning Horse Dies After National

Very sad, but sadly not the first time and it won't be the last time a horse dies after a race, whether it won or not.
Personally I have seen two horses die on the track. One very close to me at the time a few feet away in the winner's enclosure in my reporting days. It finished 4th and then sadly went down a couple of times before being walked off to to the boxes and going down for the last time. I was very, very distraught so much though that I was unable to interview the winning trainer in the race. These things do happen and it is a sad reflection of just how game and honest most of these racehorses actually are for our pleasure.
RIP little man and I feel dreadfully sorry for the jockey and the connections

Very sad, although quite moving to hear/see how distraught the jockey and trainer etc were - sometimes people think they don't care. Sadly these things happen, I have seen it happen to a pony who was jogging, being silly round an arena just as normal, it just suddenly collapsed and died, no warning.
