I wondered if anybody else has a Wintec 500 Wide saddle and could tell me what kind of girth they use with it? :) the saddle has an adjustable Y girthing system and it looks like it takes a much shorter girth than normal.

Much appreciated!

I have two of these saddles and always use a stuben cord girth. They are thick soft cord which is stitched to hold it apart so it doesn't bunch up like they used to. Don't think they are anything like the nasty old cord girths you used to be able to get. I swear by these for rounder types and always use an impact pad too.

I tried a "normal" Wintec girth as I've just started using a Wintec Wide on him; and found TBH that it felt a bit too "fixed", if that makes sense???

Then I tried an Aerborn Humane girth, and that felt much better. This girth has movable webbing attachments, so that it moves with the horse a lot better. And the girth I've got isn't the one made out of webbing, its the padded one made of plastic/synthetic material (feels like the same material as the Wintec girths are made of).

The other thing to consider is which straps you're using; on my Wintec wide saddle there are FOUR girth straps - so you may need to experiment which is best for your horse. I'm currently using the first and the fourth; which seems to hold the saddle nicely in place.

I too use a humane girth, tried the wintec girth but like the humane one better. Only issue I have is if you drop a buckle while tightening the girth up whilst on board could cause problems.

Wow thankyou everyone, I'll have to look into wintec's own girths, stuben girths and humane girths now! But it feels great to have a few trusty recommendations and know others are getting on comfortably :)
