I have the 500 but just about to replace it with something more comfortable, has lasted 4 years though and still in very good condition. Not sure if any good for high withered horses though.
hoo_ya as you know Im in the same situation as you horse wise, mine is going to change shape a lot too, my friend has the wintec 500, and it fits practically the same as my old Bates one.
you have seen my boy and as you know he has very high withers too, and like yours he is going to change shape, so what is putting me off the wintec with cair is that only the gullet can be adjusted, CAIR panels cant be.
So I was thinking of getting the wintec with flocking, also cheaper, that wat the flocking can be adjusted too as he changes shape, and then when he is fit I can buy him a nicer leather saddle.
I have a Wintec 500 with Cair, I don't find it hard and have done several 10 mile sponsored ride on it. The back of the ones with Cair can be adjusted as flock can be added above the Cair pads if required.
oh another thing I found with the Cair panels on my bates, well Cair is supposed to be fluid all the time but on my bates one of the cair panels wasnt and was actually causing the saddle to bridge, I woudnt have another cair one now I dont think.
I use the 500 with cair on welsh x tb with fairly high withers , i tried it on my tb and it was no good sat on his wither and he showed his discomfort! I put him in a wintec 2000 and he is much happier ,my saddler said that it fits well . I have done 10 and15 mile rides in both and equally comfortable
Fine for most horses until you get to wide fitting, then they start to rock and don't fit so well so no good for wider types ... for wider types a thorowgood cob is far better but not so comfortable for the rider. if you do go for a wintec, the 2000 is more comfy as has more suede on it so you stick to it better!
