wintec saddles

I have the Wintec 500 GP and 500 Dressage and I really like them. Comfy and good for a horse that drops weight easily in the winter

the GPs are a poor design in my opinion - stirrup bar set well forward and therefore difficult to achieve a balanced normal position in them.

the isabel dressage is a nice saddle - much better design.

the jump saddle didn't suit me at all - I am tall, and the flaps were not large enough for me - I also found the seat very banana shaped, rather than flat, which meant the cantle got in the way for cross country work.

In the case of each saddle, 3 points to bear in mind

1 - although they are adjustable, they are only adjustable at the front of the gullet - you cannot adjust the width of the gullet at the back (big problem with wider animals) and you cannot adjust the overall curvature of the tree. Ie, they don't fit everything, by any means! Generally they suit TB type.

2 - in my wintec dressage saddle, we actually had an incident of part of the point of the tree snapping off, even though the saddle was correctly fitted. Horse told us about it pretty quickly

saddler was able to fix it by fitting flexible leather points. He told us that this is far from the first time he has seen this happen, and is happiest fitting flexi leather points to start with rather than risking the plastic point snapping.

3- I'm not a fan of CAIR - although some will disagree. It is less adjustable than traditional flocking, and I have found some horses particularly resistant to it.

I think there have been some developments with the Cair, the new ones can now have inserts in to raise the saddle in places....! but then i love my saddle to pieces....!!

Really don't like them, think they are very badly designed and made.

I have a wintec Isabella Werth dressage and so do many peope in the dressage yard I livery at.. they are great design, lightweight for the horses and easy to look after... ;0)

Wintecs are designed for TB types - the tree is very banana shaped and not a good fit for flat backed cob types.

Adjustable gullet - does not change the shape of the tree at the front - if you are anything other than a medium it really wont fit.

The isabelle werth is on a different tree - the stirrup bars are set much further back than the standard wintec dressage.

Thorowgoods are much better I think and they have various trees for each model.

I liked my wintec 2000 so much I brought another one! Used to have a isabelle werth dressage saddle - and if I needed a dressage saddle again I would definitely get one.

I wouldn't swap my wintecs for having leather saddles again out of choice - but as RachelFerd said they won't fit everything - no one saddle will fit every horse. However, if te wintec fits your horse, the ability to adjust the front of the saddle is helpful IMO.
